I've found a great mechanic to some major work on my 1988 BJ74 while I go on vacation. He had it on the hoist today a found this:

He's going to be removing the engine for rebuilding. Not really sure what I'm looking at tbh. Owned the truck for 14 years and it never really seemed an issue. Any thoughts?

It needs welding up, best done by removing the wing (fender) from the vehicle. Strange markings, it looks like someone deliberately cut through it with a grinder.

Some unsolicited advice: Make sure your engine builder has secured the necessary parts for the 13B-T before diving into a rebuild. Many parts for this engine are getting very thin on the ground.

have you been spraying that thing with oil or is that all leaks.... 🧐

I can’t for the life of me understand why someone would’ve done this!
