Alternator moans before failing?

Why do you think the P/S pump is going leak? I never had a leaky P/S pump on any of my toy. The shield can cook the internals of the alternator. There is a built in fan on the armature to cool the alternator but with the shield, there is no room for the hot air to escape.

Air goes in the front and out the back. The shield doesn't block it. Me and plenty of others have used plastic shields on various UZ vehicles with zero problems.

If there's one thing all the UZ engines are known for, it's power steering pump leaks. Every single one I've met has a power steering pump leak.
 
Well thanks to all for the advice and insights. I felt more comfortable going into mechanic with the group think here.

Findings: Alternator-yes

Serp belt-yes..the "water mist test to diagnose sound" that I did (with resulting screech) is likely what brought battery light on bc it cracked the belt lengthways.

New connector for alt bc "old one shorting out. Yup makes sense

Tensioner (my hope)-nope.
Pulley -nope

Is it really worth my keeping the old original alternator (and pay core charge?) In order to have it rebuit and keep as a spare? I'm wondering if I'm being too ambitious for my LT interests!

Ended up w a mechanic walkable to me and orders OE parts from WorldPac. Review coming. So far great service and feel.
