Last week in one particular left hand corner suddenly my stock difflock and alternator warning lights came on, but only for a second or two. Tried to replicate it multiple times on that trip - nothing ...all normal. Almost forgot about it until I went round that corner again a couple of days later...and exactly the same happened. Not one time more since... almost a week and many more trips and miles. I'm puzzled. Haven't yet started to encircle the issue but could imagine some loosenes inside the ignition switch ?? Szenario is like - ignition on without engine running - but without the brake warning light.
I can't check for the next two weeks, but will definitely go back to that corner and try it again - it must be a combination of speed, braking and vehicle angle which triggers it. How is the 'light test' function of the difflock lights controlled ?
Must study that wiring diagram...
Has anybody a hint ?

Sounds like a loose or bad connection at the alternator, or a bad ground associated with the alternator.
Or, your alternator is in bad shape. Has the vehicle been in deep mud or water recently?

Check the charge light relay connecter and the relay itself.
Diff locks led and charge warning light are activated by this relay when ignition on.

No, I haven't been offroading at all, mudgudgeon. I'll check all connections when back home in 10 days time.
Sved, that was the hint I was hoping for, thank you ! Do you know where to find that relais on a rhd vehicle ?
I'll have a look in the manuals in 10 days time after being back home.

Thanks again, I'll report.

I guess the manual will tell me...but I'm curious and 10 days away from them.

Thanks again, I'll report.

Which type alternator do you have ?
Internal or external regulator.
Not al hj6# have a charge relay, which is depending on the alt.

I do have the external regulator..

Your factory fuel sedimenter, if still fitted, may be the source of this - it has a sensor in the base of it and I think its hooked up to the charge light.. its bolted to the right hand chassis rail (inside) in front of the fuel tank.. its about the size of an oil filter.

A few images here: HJ47/60/61/75 Sedimenter - https://photos.app.goo.gl/yTBd1qwecH7oP5L77

Pretty sure he has a separate fuel filter light that comes upp in case of severe contamination. That one doesn't seem to light upp when his diff locks light upp.
Am I correct ?

I'm pretty sure that my truck was never fitted with a fuel sedimenter. It's all looking very stock down there.
And both difflock lights plus the alternator light light up and go out simultaneously.

Well, back home and back into trying to find this difflock / alt. warning light issue.
I've just checked my downloaded wiring diagrams but the ones I have don't include the factory locker circuit.
I've googled it but I'm finding only the same diagram. The parts diagram shows various relays but I'm not sure either.
I suspect it under the right hand side kick panel or above the fuse box.
Has anybody of you guys the correct wiring diagram at hand or knows the location of the charge light relay ?
1986 HJ60 MMZ RHD ?

Cheers for any hints !

Don't think you have that relay.
If you do it is behind the right kick panel.

So what makes you think that I haven't got that relay ? Somehow these two warning lights must be linked - but not the brake warning light.
The appropriate wiring diagram would be great to have...

Tomorrow I'll drive round that corner again.... and also pull some relays / check connections and see what happens.

The one reason why these 3 light up while your engine is running is because your IG signal from your regulator is briefly cut off.
These 3 lights (LED) are constantly balanced by means of putting 24 V on both sides .So the minus /ground side has also 24 V when running. This means no current will flow.
With key in IG position and engine off you will have a + and a - (ground) side so the leds/light will be activated.

Some diagrams that may help.

I had a similar issue myconnector on the back of the alternator is loose I narrow it down to the signal wire.

I replaced the connector all good now!!!

Sved, veiloctane, thank you very much for the information !
Those wiring diagrams are what I was after. still need to find the orientation a bit between the pages.
Seems that I have that charge relay, also with external regulator.

Before reading the latest post I figured out that why the brake warning light was not lit when it happened.
The brake light is only triggered by low brake fluid level or low vacuum - so in most cases the vacuum has disappeared when switching ign. on and the warning light is on. If you switch off the engine and straight away switch ign. on again - the brake warning light is not lit.
Just those little findings on the way to find the culprit - With those wiring diagrams research will be faster.

Yesterday I checked all the connections and had a look at the alternator brushes - everything looks fine. I did not yet open the regulator itself.
I'll be going round that particular corner again this morning....
As I read the wiring diagram the diff lock warning light test function is just hooked up to the alternator charge lamp circuit - and it a case of a alternator problem the diff lock light will always be lit aswell. Can you confirm ?

Can you confirm that you have that charge relay ?
Yes your connections at the alt or reg. Should be checked.
