Well folks, flew out to Calgary last week to pick up my new HDJ81. Never seen one before but did lots of research on them and on Wayne from Luxury Imports.

So I arrive and there she is in all her glory. 1990 HDJ81, 158000km, 2.5 OME lift, new tires, new paint, CDL, electric lockers yada yada ya...

So brother and I left Saturday morning to drive back to Ontario, approx 3400km. Well 36 hours later we're here!!!

Nice sunny skies across prairies, snow storms in Northern Ontario, passing all the old ladies along the trans Canada, guess they're afraid of a little snow (12inches) not the cruiser.

Gotta love that diesel, 24mpg averaged over the whole trip based on GPS, those are imperial gallons not those iddy biddy little ones you have done south...hehe

When you stomp on the throttle she sounds like a small block V8, rode like a dream and to top it all off the cooler in the armrest.

So far very happy, enjoying the odd stares from people as they take a double take to see which side the wheel is on.

Only one cop stopped me, more out of curiosity than anything else.

Would highly recommend Wayne from Luxury Imports if anyone is looking.

Here's a couple of pix.

Note the pintle hitch, took it off my Landrover along with a pile of other goodies yet to be installed.

jury is still out on the deflectors!

just to be fair the pix of the cooler have no beer in them, didn't want to rub it in too much. u can't see them but there are two ice cube trays with nine cubes each in there too.

x7, that settles it...I'm moving to Kanada!

just think...in 10 more years you will be allowed to import a 1990 hdj81..we can sell you ours then after we've finished with them. ;)

And its a BIG suck.

Not only do you get to own that, but you get to parade around da Great White Nort in it. I am very envious to say the least. Though I am not sure I could ever get used to things being backwards. I have a groove in my right forearm from leaning on the center armrest edge, and a rough spot on my left elbow from it sitting on the window sill. That would get all screwed up.

Seriously, that is a great score. Use it for all its worth....especially the cooler.:D

Heh, everything looks like it's on the correct side to me :)

How easy is it to fit the cooling gear into a '91 HDJ80R that doesn't have it currently?? Can you fake it a bit by re-routing the existing air vents that run near the console into the interior??

Being able to keep the drinks cold in there would be worth it's weight in gold during an Aussie summer :)

Was it an aussie truck originally, or somewhere else (Japan?)??

Nice rig
Cheers
