Several people have expressed an interest in going on an "easy," exploration-style trip, so it looks like we're going this weekend. Due to the work schedules of some, the plan is to leave early Friday morning (3/16);however, if enough want to, we can leave late Thursday afternoon, provided we've got a consensus on where to stop. We'll see.

The type of driving will be a step up from Bienville last year, but a couple of steps down from Hot Springs, K2, etc., but this is REALLY pretty scenery! We'll be headed toward Little River Canyon in the northeast section of Alabama, and other spots in DeKalb County, as well as sites in northwest Georgia and southeast Tennessee (like Chattanooga). We're still trying to run down additional off-road spots in those areas, though we've already found a few backcountry and forest service roads along the route.

Although I've spent a good deal of time in these areas over the last 20+ years, I seem to find new and interesting places to visit (caves, waterfalls, hiking trails, etc.) every time I go. Add this time the search for 4x4 opportunities, and I hope it'll be a fun, quick, inexpensive (excluding fuel) trip during a nice time of year. For those of us not going to K2, this offers an opportunity to get out in the cruisers.

Though a little short notice, just wanted to post for anyone who wants to join in.

Let us know!

Man that sounds great, if it weren't for my brothers wedding I would be all over this in my new truck! Little River Canyon and some of the elevation and rock formations around Chattanooga make for some great scenery and wheeling.

take pics!!!

Hey David, I am not trying to hijack thread but I have every weekend off in Hot Springs in April. I am wondering if anybody would be interested in a weekend camping trip in the Ouachita National Forrest that surrounds the Hot Springs area and extends west to almost Oklahoma. Easter weekend would be hard to do but the rest of my month is open if anybody is interested.

If mods want to move this, please do.

Just got back from Bankhead National Forest/Sipsey River ( north Alabama) and the weather was great. Good hiking trails, primitive camping, and some fun forest service roads to explore. Nothing too challenging, but just the right amount for a solo, winchless 100 with 3 kids. Can't make this weekend, but would love to do another like it. Got every weekend booked in April, but an Arkansas trip would be fun, too.

I am in for this weekend. DNP, have we decided yet if we are gonna try and camp or is everyone that wanted to go in the hotel crowd? I can leave Thursday evening or Friday morning.

I would like to take my dog so camping sounds like a better plan to me. Otherwise, i will have to find a dog friendly place or leave her in the kennel....which I would rather not do.

I promised the kids a cool trip this spring break and this they would love!

In!

We can do a hotel , cabin or camp. We are up for whatever.

That part of the country is beautiful and every time I go to or through that area i wish I was off the interstate and in the woods.

Looking forward to little river canyon!

Desoto Falls.

A little backroads offroading. If it wasnt for the river crossings, which were part of some of the trails, it all would be a 1 on a 1-5 scale. . River crossing were all hard bottom that took more nerve then anything. Crossings made that part of the trail a 2.
