I'll be completely honest, I have had the exact same thought and discussed at length with one of my friends about trying it on his 60 (as a boost to the stock AC). This unit only weigh's 45lbs and is only 6" tall.
If you had a basket style roof rack you could cut the center out and probably completely conceal the visual of it. I don't think it's a crazy idea at all

Damn...... kinda wish I'd thought of this. What a great idea, and all self-contained.

I have some friends that have put them on diggers/skid steers and apparently they work VERY well.

I'm still thinking on it!!

I often wonder about the 12v and battery portable rv ac units… not too big and just need the exhaust hose to exit … for a soft top pretty easy … hard top tricky :meh:

Really need to have the whole unit outside of the vehicle. I have some room A/C units as emergency back up here in Phoenix. Those are all two hose units. Issue with just a single hose type is while the hot air exhausts outside that air has to be made up with air from the condition space. To do this warmer outside air has to be drawn into the condition space. Just the bottom with evaporator and blower is all you want inside.

I would also make a guard to divert branches to slide over the top. Anything solid would probably destroy the unit.

We have cold air.

It works very well. The passenger will be cold. It cools the 40 off inside a surprising amount in a couple minutes. I have zero insulation other than floor mats with some kilmat stuck to them. Also only have one front door with fresh weather strip.
It was 93 in the shop and this was at the vent after idling for about 10 minutes.

I still have two wires to wire in correctly. However over all it’s done.

Today it will be 97 out. I’ve drove the 40 every day for 2 weeks of upper 90s. This will be a “game changer”.
