Been looking to pick up a new window switch. I decided to go with a Dorman since it seems to have the closest look and construction to OEM (as far as I can tell from pictures). I have a '96, but as far as I can tell the '91-'92 switch is the same except that it has a light on every switch (which I think is cooler). After looking at the prices I was sold. The Dorman FJ80 switch was less than half the cost of the FZJ80 switch! In fact, the Dorman FZJ80 swich is nearly the same price as OEM! Anyway, just thought I'd point this out in case anyone is looking for a new window switch.

Here's the price for the Dorman equivalents:

FZJ80
Dorman 901-709: $134.88 on Amazon

FJ80
Dorman 901-700: $62.48 on Amazon

Here's the OEM parts if anyone's interested:

FZJ80
OEM 84820-35010: $141.72 on Partsouq

FJ80
OEM 84820-32150: FJ80 - $176.57 on Partsouq

Switch Doctor has the cheapest options but the design looks to be drastically different and the buttons don't really match. I'll take some pics for comparison when I get it.

Got it. They appear to be identical design. The only difference I can see is the font on the AUTO button. However, the switches look to be the same so you could probably pull your old switch covers and reuse them for a pure OEM look. Dorman left, OEM right.

Ha! I've never really felt a need for that mod, but I may do it eventually.

All window buttons on this switch are illuminated. Also, the door lock button is illuminated too! Was the 91-92 switch illuminated on the lock switch? Improved window speed a little (or maybe in my head), mine must not have been in terrible shape, though I've had to clean it a couple times.

Overall, it seems like a good option. I'm sure its not as good as OEM but its also much cheaper. It's probably a better option than Switch Doctor for just a bit more. We'll see how it holds up. It is made in China afterall.

Homie, EVERYTHING is made in China these days... keep us posted how it works out.

That explains why the quality of everything sucks. Not exactly a complicated or precise piece of equipment so I'm sure its fine.

Mine died within 3 months of install. So I'm definitely going to watch for an update.

Your Dorman replacement died? That sucks we will see. Did you replace motors and runs too? I wonder if just doing the switch with dirty runs and old motors just destroys the switch due to excessive current load.

In case anyone is wondering the buttons are swappable:

I swapped the auto and lock buttons:

@DARKNESS how is this holding up?

Don't forget the auto-up mod :p
For anyone interested, the Switch doctor version may have "auto up" built-in. At least the one I got for my Civic did, OEM was not...

I had goot luck taking the factory one apart and cleaning all the contacts. It was amazing that it worked as long as it did with the way they looked. Cleaned them up and it has been working since, but has only been about a year. Man, there were way more parts in there than I was expecting!

Don't forget the auto-up mod :p

For me, I didn't care for the auto-up mod. If I pulled hard enough to start the auto-up, I was not able to stop it from going all the way up. Seems like the factory auto-down can be interrupted. It's been a while since I had it, but I recall that's how it was working and I wasn't pleased.

I have the Switch Doctor version, it says it’s for a 1991-1995 but the individual switches do not light up except for the “AUTO”. For $13.50 shipped, I can’t complain. Been using it since Feb 2017, so far so good.

Thread revival … lol.

Based on the above, the only difference between the FZJ80 and the FJ80 switch panels is that the FJ80 lights up? Otherwise they are fully compatible? I have a 1994 GCC spec FZJ80, but it looks like the prices have gone up since and the FZJ80 Dorman is silly expensive … literally considering a Chinese alternative at this point. It’s over $200 where I am, which is what I’m about to spend on a freaking clutch, at least that does something useful …

Also, if you have a pick and pull kind of salvage place nearby, I've pulled goon used ones them from old Camry's for $5 when I had 80 series previously. Those kind of salvage yards don't exist around here anymore unfortunately.

Bump - how are the Dormans holding up?! They sure demand a premium for being China aftermarket vs. the OEM ones for not much more.

What is the difference between the OEM 84820-35010 and 84820-32150 units? I'm '94 FZJ and can't tell any difference between the two visually online. May just splurge on OEM since the Dormans are so pricey (I thought Dorman's entire existence was substantially lower priced parts for reasonably close OE quality, not almost as expensive?!?!?).

Thanks!
