It’s a Smitty Built. I made a template out of cardboard to make sure the holes all line up. I put dynamat on the inside and covered it up with a cheap vinyl wrap. It doesn’t rattle around driving around. It’s a good height for an arm rest to.
What cup holder did you use?

Hey.. debating the pricey CruiserCrap one.. but your install looks awesome. Just to beat this dead horse one.more.time.. That's the SmittyBilt Center Console # 31815 ???

Modified to fit around the heater on an FJ62. Yes?

Dang.. looks clean. I may have to go this route. The CCrap one is nice, but especially with a $56 delivery charge, it get's ridiculous. (vs this one).
Thanks.. -J

I don’t remember which model it was. It was the shorter one. It doesn’t have the lockable radio. Hope that helps.

How’d you manage to make the heater look integrated into the center console?
I used the stock console molded plastic for the rear heater lever. Two screws is all that holds it on to the stock console. Used cardboard to make a template. Took a few tries and once I was happy with it, traced the template on the back of the new console and made my cuts.

@WOLRAB sorry if I missed it but where did you get the rear base for the console that sits over the rear heater? Does that come with the Smittybuilt?...if so, any idea if it can be bought separately?
Mine came with the box. I opened it up at 4wheel parts to check. I have no idea if it can be ordered separate. Might be worth a call to Smittybuilt.

Came with the console. Only thing I did was trimmed the edges to fit around the heater vents.

What to do when your front passenger seat is big and leaves no space for a console? Yeah one option is to replace the passenger seat but i want to keep the originality of the interior in place.

I used a Tuffy dual cup holder. The foam that holds your cup, bottle sucks! Over time it just flops down and doesn’t hold the drink and just rattles. What I did was I order a piece of 1/8” thick rubber and removed the old foam and replaced with the rubber membrane.

It smelled a little like car tires and cigarettes for a while but that is gone. Now it holds whatever I throw in there and doesn’t rattle.

I just used the same pattern as the old foam and cut the rubber so everything matched up. It took about 1.5 hrs but is well worth it my friend. If you have anymore questions feel free. I get a lot of help in here so the little I can do I feel like I’m repaying what I learned.

Exactly my plan with my Tuffy. Glad to see it works well.

It was a simple project and so well worth the time. That was my biggest complaint about the cup holders. You would think that foam would be better because those cup holders weren’t cheap. Good luck my friend.

I use this one. Its cheap and works pretty well.

Does anyone have a link for the Smittybuilt console?
Old post I know, but does anyone have a link for the Smittybuilt consolde? Im having trouble find the right one online. Will be for a 1990 FJ62.
4WD parts has them. They offer one with a radio slot and one without. I used the non radio slot because someone on here mentioned it didn’t fit right. I also lined the inside and top with sound deadening and covering that with vinyl. No rattles!

Are you using the jeep version and just fitting it?

I’m not sure which version is the jeep version. I cut a piece of cardboard that’s the same shape as the bottom of the console. Removed the old console and place the cardboard where it need to go. Found the factory bolt holes and drilled into the new console using the cardboard as a template. It worked pretty good.

Ok cool thanks, that's a good idea. I havent pulled my old console yet, so I wasn't sure how contoured it needed to be. I don't need any of the rear heat, so I can remove all of that if necessary.
