I want to add three extra 12v sockets to my 97. Would like to put two sockets around the shifter area and one on the back side of the center console. I have searched many forums on here. Can I run all three together to one fuze? Any info will help.

Chris

It depends what you plan on running off them. Generally speaking I would fuse them seperately

Nothing that pulls to much amp's. The ones by the shifter will charge iPhones and the one in the center console will be for a my sons phone and or hand held game devices.

are you talking dc round plugs? if so, just put them in there with an inline fuse to each, that way if you have a problem it is easier to troubleshoot.

Yeah I guess like the regular standard socket.

I would run an inline fuse for each one, if you want them constant hot then go to the battery, that way you can charge things with the key out of the car. Good luck.

Would I have to run three lines to the battery?

No. Take a look at my signature links. I did write ups on just about everything you are trying to do for power distribution.

In short, you run a power distribution line from the battery to under the console, once. Use thicker gauge wire with a large fuse. Then tie in all of the smaller power cables to it and fuse those separately.

It's safer and will greatly help you in the long run when you decide you want to add all sorts of stupid power sucking accessories like the rest of the animals here :flipoff2:

Man thanks so much. I would hate to take the 80 to the beach with three kids and one power source!

I use these sockets in my rig, they are a bit nicer then the cheapy units available at the parts store.

They are available in single, double and triple outlet from West Marine

I agree with this ^^ method and installation except for the fuse part. I use a breaker at the battery with manual reset for the main feed wire. Then under the center console I use individual (15A) breakers automatic resets under the console. No need to carry any fuses

Note also Blue Sea is one of the only 12volt socket provider with a 15A per socket rating.

These are the ones I hate. Everything I plug into it wiggles free.

In my write up you will see that I used circuit breakers :flipoff2:

I was just trying not to make it a $200 project for the OP just to power some toys for his kids :p

Sorry You are correct I didnt spend the time to read your link  but you did use the word FUSE:flipoff2:

If you payed $200 for breakers let me know when you need more:hillbilly:

But we do agree breakers are better then fuses ;)

I think I have about $300 in breakers alone in my truck :flipoff2:

But agree, breakers>fuses

I added two factory type receptacles to my center console. When I did all this I also added an inverter. I don't believe that I ran each receptacle on it's own circuit. There are many circuits in the vehicle that share a single fuse, so I wouldn't be too worried. Obviously, don't exceed the currecnt rating for the wire or fuses you plan to use. The link below is to my install.

That's the same thing I want to do minus the inverter for now. Could you give more details on how you ran the wires for the sockets? I can install radios all day but when it comes to stuff like this I become a tard!
