Doesn't require a relay, but it's smart to use one so that you don't put extra stress on the dome light circuit. LEDs don't even draw that much power but it's better safe than sorry imo.

Cool, thanks for the explanation @FlammableFishie, I'd guess that with LEDs in the dome lights already there can't be too much stress on that circuit... Plenty of folks have added additional strip lighting to the rear hatch, without a relay I'd guess.

Off the wall question, but does anyone know what the part number for the plug is? I'd rather buy a new male plug than cut the one off the running boards if I could.

To answer my own question, this is the female plug coming from underneath the body that plugged into the factory running board light.

I was unable to find the male counterpart, so I cut the factory plug off and attached it using waterproof connectors to both the aftermarket LED lights and the stock running boards in case they ever go back on for some reason.

I bought some $15 LED lights and filled them with as much silicone as I could and bolted them to the factory running board mounts underneath the truck.

Good info!

From what I can tell,
the female end looks to be part #90980–11051 on page 96 of that PDF
the correct male end looks to be part #90980-11050 on page 249 of that PDF
