Awesome! Its great to see another enthusiast save a rig from the scrap heap! the few, the proud, the 80's owners!

Well back from surgery, camping and a weekend of relaxation. All I could do was relax and think about my 80 at home needing work.
So as soon as I got unpacked it was off to the garage. I got the rest of the metal under the carpet all cleaned up. Then I figured I’d test clean the nasty headliner.

A simple spot test turned into a 4 hour job. I sprayed Simple Green on the bad spots, then soaked down one section at a time with Tuff Stuff upholstery cleaner. Then it was scrub, scrub with a tooth brush, a wipe down with a damp rag, then a towel dry. It was a job, but the results are beautiful!! All the stains came out and it looks practically new again.

I can’t say any less for the carpet. It as well, looks amazing. I got it back in and just can’t believe the difference. This is going to shape up to be a beautiful Cruiser. Amazing what a little deep cleaning will do! And man does it ever smell nice. View attachment 1543301

How did you clean the headliner? Mine looks pretty good, but there are a few smudges I would like to get rid of, I am just worried that the liner seems kinda fragile and I don't want to mess it up. Looks fantastic!

EDIT: I see you used Simple Green and some light scrubbing with brushes. I will try that.

As a fellow Carolina’ian I applaud your dedication! These 80’s MUST be saved from the scrap heaps..... they make ideal overlanding platforms with their capabilities. If your ever over here “dipping your toes in the water” hit me up! Welcome!

I also used Tuff Stuff. Worked great!

I considered doing that to the new manual seats I put in recently. I just scrubbed them with simple green and hosed them off while assembled. Greased the runs and installed. My seats have tears and need new foam so I didn't want to go full on Hercules on them. If I had your seats I would have done it like you did.

Great outcome!

I don’t think I’m alone when I say I hate the cheap wood trim. This was such an eyesore. What did these people do? Sit in traffic and pick pieces off? What you see is how I found it when I bought the truck.

Now, removing has been no easy task. They say on here, turn the heat on a few minuets and it peels right off. Not the case here. Heat gun, scrapers, various solvents and cleaners. It took nearly four hours on just the center console. Needless to say, after all that, it didn’t come out perfect.

I had some rubber stair runner that I bought by the foot at Home Depot for another project that seemed like it would do nicely. So I went to cutting and fitting. Put down with double sided tape. It came out real nice. Much better than the wood.

Picked up a set of all weather floor mats over the weekend. They are Floor Armor mats from Kraco. I had a set of these in my 60 and really liked them. Picked them up on sale at NAPA for $33. They are cut-to-fit and heavy duty. The Weathertech ones look nice, but so many people have them - I like doing something different and these were a lot cheaper.
