How the heck do you recharge the AC system in the 3.0L 4Runner 1992?
I tried the R134A bottle from NAPA and hooking it up. Well the damn bottle quick connect didn't fit right, and it leaked out a bunch. I still have some of the can left, but i'm not sure exactly how it pushes on to the valve. The hose seemed too small.

How do I do this?

Pictures and step by step would be appreciated so I don't waste my $50 can of R134a.

You have to convert it from R12 to R143a. Which means you need adapters for the fittings, and you really should get all the old R12 evacuated from the system.

How do you evacuate the R12 freon ? And where can I get hose adapters to hook on? Do they have them at any ol' auto parts store?

hold it

Just from what you are mentioning you have no clue as to what is involved charging an r-12 system.i'm not trying to put you down but it is against the law to vent out any type of refrigerant into the atmosphere thats why it would be better for you to take it to a shop and save your self the frustration or even worst hurting yourself. here is what you would need if you really want to do this yourself, gauge set with hoses, vacuum pump, high side adaptor for r-12,refrigerant charging clamp if using cans, machine to dump in your refrigerant and recycle it or you can buy one of those use refrigerant charging station for about 2k.just my 2 cents.

^^^ what he said. I am all for doing your own work, but some times it's not worth it, especially when you don't have the proper equipment.

Not sure, but you might also need to replace the drier. And once the system is opened, you should run a leak detection dye in the refrigerant to check for leaks. Oh yeah don't forget to check the Ester-based oil for the compressor.

See where this is going? Plus, if you pay a shop to do it, they will often give you a guarantee.
