AC Compressor Replacement - Climate Control System Error

UPDATE: Well, along with the aforementioned pulley swap, I had been having a Jetson's/Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sound that would come and go with the compressor cycling. It never really went away after I swapped on the new clutch. I figured the compressor would probably fail at some point but would drive it until then. Just so happens, over the weekend the AC stopped blowing cold. Popped the hood and I can see the clutch mostly frozen again. Pretty sure something inside the compressor is causing excess drag and killing clutches. I've got a new compressor on order. I'll report back after it's been swapped.
Bummer. Thanks for the update, it’ll help with people troubleshooting in the future.

Got the LX blowing cold again after sticking in a new compressor and condenser. I detailed some notes on the process below. No more weird sound coming from the compressor when the clutch is engaged anymore.

I have the same error B1422 - Compressor lock, I'm trying to troubleshoot.

Question: how easy should the swashplate rotate by hand? It now has significant resistance that is not uniform around the turn.

If you have access to a very low range torque wrench I can try to get that number.. but it could take me a few days to get in there and it’ll be really low.. like what you use to check pinion preload in a diff.

Beyond that it’s tough to qualify. You should be able to turn it with a nut driver though it would have some resistance. I’m far from sure but seem to remember mine being relatively uniform in resistance throughout a revolution.

Thank @bloc but it turned out I'll need to replace the compressor because the pulley has damaged it.
When I get some time I'll post the mistery of the missing washer.
The compressor turns by hand. It is a somewhat uneven resistance but that can be caused by the pumping it is doing being conected to the AC pipes not on a bench. I don't know.
Anyway need to order a new one and get a condenser to go along with it.

BTW do you know if the Toyota compressors come with oil? FSM says to add oil. All aftermarket compressors including Denso come with oil.

Talking about aftermarket, do you guys trust they put the right amount of oil or do you drain and refill per FSM? Can the oil actually be fully drained?
