About to pull the trigger on a LOKKA (1 Viewer)

Where are you finding these locked rears? I looked for about a month locally and on ebay and couldn't find anything. Every one was a unit with an open rear labeled as "locking rear" or the yard refused to take a picture of the locker switch in the dash. I found one I think but it was rusty as hell and was around $800, that's why I even started looking at Lokkas.

As for the winch I agree, I'd probably be better with that, maybe. At this point I don't want to have that extra weight on the front end with my AHC ( I already have a bumper) until I upgrade the suspension (when the AHC fails)

I think I'd rather have a locked rear and not get stuck in the first place ( or be a lot less likely to) than deal with having to winch out, but I will eventually add a winch.
A locker will get you stuck and a winch will pull you out ;)

Try Benzeenauto out of Sacramento CA area. They shipped mine complete with the locker for $500. It was completely rust free and they give you some warranty too: Genuine OEM Toyota Land Cruiser 1999 Axle Housing online. Benzeen Auto Parts.

For me it's just so I can put the Lokka up front, it's the only way you can do it with the 100 series being AWD without free wheeling hubs.

Other benefit is part time eliminates vibration from front drive shaft and CV axles. This means you could use aftermarket CV axles and use the saving for part time conversion. 2WD will extend CV boots life too. I plan to do front LOKKA with part time conversion. My goal is to control front wheels speed when one of them has less traction to avoid differential breakage.

CV boot life isn't something I had considered that is a good point. I hate to say it, but I'm not sure I like the look of the selectable hubs on the front of the 100 either though. They seem to stick out too far. I haven't seen them in person though so maybe I'd feel different then.

Oh man, for us 'Old Schooler's' (read Old Guys) they are the Bees Knees.

Love the look. Utilitarian...yes.

I think it looks good on older trucks, it just looks weird to me on the 100

So..............any updates on this?

Nope, I sent another email yesterday asking for an update. I'm pretty close to just asking PayPal for my money back at this point.

They took around 8 weeks to get my front LOKKA out to me (in Feb this year).

Please keep us advised.

As I alluded to in one of my first posts, I've never heard of anyone actually getting one.

are there any real differences from the one Nitro sells?

do they actually make one for the 100 series with the LSD rear? That was my issue, lokka was the only company that had a product for the LX470 with an LSD carrier.

I called the number in Australia again today, same guy answered as a month ago. He said he couldn't find my order, but said if I had ordered from Lokka.com a different shop handles those orders.....OK. He said he would contact them and get them to make sure and give me another update.

I asked if there was a number I could reach them at. "I don't think so, we always contact them through email honestly mate"

Hmmmm, I'm very skeptical now. I did get a response from them a month ago, but I've asked twice since and with no response. I sent one final email today. I'm giving them until the end of the week and then filing a PayPal dispute if they can't tell me anything.

Sorry to hear of this. Maybe give it just a bit more time, you're so heavily invested already (almost 75 days).
Maybe it will actually happen, but you'd be the first...to my knowledge.

I probably will, I noticed I only have 180 days to actually file a dispute with PayPal, which gives me until about January. I really want to try this thing I just wish they could get it to me!

Rooting for you. I'd like to do it on mine as well IF yours turns out well.

Finally got a shipment notification tonight. Ready to try this thing. Hopefully I can get it in without destroying anything haha

Would like to see some pre-install pics if you have the time and any documentation of the install afterward. Thinking I might want to do this as well....but you are pretty much pioneering this. I don't recall anyone else having done it (or even gotten as far as you have....securing one).

I'll definitely take lots of pictures. Probably will be posting throughout because I'm sure I will need real time help.

I'm worried about clearances because of this post Rear locker in place of LSD?

...and in this video the guy talks about how he had to reuse his clutch plates in his rear diff as spacers to get the proper clearance with the Lokka. (he discusses it around 9:00 to the end)

I wouldn't even begin without an assortment of thrust washers (unless you have the luxury of time to do the job). You really won't know what is required for clearances until you get into it.

Where can I find those? I searched some parts sites and couldn't find them. Should I just order ones for an open rear LC diff? I already ordered a new gasket and axle seals

EDIT

nevermind I found them here 2001 Lexus LX 470 4.7L AT Differential Side Gear Thrust Washer (Rear). Washer, Differential Side - 4136160870 - Genuine Lexus Part

but there are a bunch of different prices and part numbers, but it doesn't show what size each are. Surprised at the price of these things...$18 to $ 22 a piece

Ok so I found a list of the thrust washers that say it fits the UZJ 100, and I hope I am not incorrectly assuming that they should fit an LX470 of the same year, the axle size is the same correct? That is what the washer is fitting over I would imagine, regardless of whether the carrier is open or for a LSD. The confusing part is this list includes a bunch of side thrust washers that are obviously different thickness, but there is no way to tell what the thickness is for sure based on the part number. I'm not sure what I should have on hand either. I may just have to measure and try to calculate about what I need an order. Kinda sucks since the truck will be non driveable during that time.

UPDATE:
Big thanks to cruiser outfitters for helping me relate the part number to washer thickness. I guess I'll have to just wait until I start putting it back together and order a few around the estimated size needed to get it in spec. Apparently part numbers are the same for LX470 and LC as well.
