No good god... DONT do that

For the win of "least stupid solution',
id still hammer a wedge in there though

I might try the wedge option before welding it - it’s got one on the front side that tensions with a bolt through the receiver. It does a decent job - no rattles. But the issue isn’t rattles - it’s leverage. I’ve got about 220lbs on it for the time being - that’ll drop by ~90lbs once the fuel tank goes in. If the truck’s getting tossed side to side a lot, it’ll eventually loosen up a bit. At least that’s been my experience

But I’m never not going to leave the house without a spare, so it’s always on the truck. If I ever change my mind - welds are easy to cut and a grinder wheel + sand paper would get it back into shape without much fuss.

I couldn’t care less about resale - it’s in my will. It goes to my nephew.

I use this anti rattle hitch device and it is solid as a tank. I’m in the process of getting a couple more, one for our other cruiser and a couple as spares. If you think this could be a possible solution for you I’m more than happy to send you one to try out.

That looks perfect but they don’t ship to the US. I think something like that just might work. I’m thinking adding something like this might be enough to keep it in place.

Any chance I could Venmo you to ship one to me in the states?
