Out of bed very early and it's been very busy

285 / 60 R-18

Good eyes.

Yokohama website lists 285/60/18 as a “SL” P-metric tire. No LT available in that size.

Are you sure that you don’t have 285/65/18 LT?

I am running the following Nitto Terra Grappler G2 285/60/R18 120S XL. They replaced factory tires. I have about 7000 miles on them so far. Things I have noticed so far. If I have radio off I can hear tires on pavement, especially concrete, asphalt not as much. With 120 load rating they are only marginally stiffer than factory and ride quite well. I try to keep them at 38lbs cold which results in 40 to 41 lb driving temp. They do well pulling my boat with only about +1 lb increase for minimal tongue weight. They handled Austin snow and ice apocalypse quite well. Time will tell they are supposed to be 50 to 60K mile tire. I have not done any off road in them yet but they get me out of boat launches with zero fan fair. Good luck in you hunt.
I think that you’re over inflated…you probably need 33 psi?? Paging @gaijin

The Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure (RCTIP) for those ISO-Metric 285/60R18 120S XL tires on a LC200 is 33psi F/R.

I’ll look tomorrow and send a pic. Clearly I need sleep. I don’t do well with simple math when my brain shuts down.

Here are my tires:

Yokohama Geolander A/T G015
285/60R18
Serv Desc: 116H
UTQG: 600 A B
Severe Snow Rated

My feedback:
  • Very quiet on the road.
  • I'm getting 18-22 mpg.
  • Tread warranty is 5 years/60k miles. I'm sure I'll get 55k-65k miles in these.
  • Per Discount Tire, easier than most big tires to balance.
  • Great in the rain and dirt.
  • Decent in the snow and shallow mud. I've never tried these in deep mud and never will.
  • Hold well in curves.
  • Good-enough for most trails. We had these on our '08 over many 4x4 trails around Ouray last year.
  • The "Severe Snow" rated is just for marketing. It was going to drive on very deep snow (and I've done it and won't do it again), then you need beefier tires. I've taken these in snow about 8"-10" deep and there were fine. But part of this was the capability of the Cruiser.
  • If you do a lot of 4x4 roads, rock crawling, deep mud, steep slopes with loose soil, or anything similar then I highly recommend you get a tire designed for such.
Here are pics after 15,000 miles and 13 months. About 14,400 miles on paved and 600 on 4x4 roads. I've taken several 3,000+ mile trips with the rig loaded up and bikes on a hitch-mounted carrier. The tires have been rotated every 3k-4k miles. Stock suspension. Nothing is towed. I drive conservatively.

Yea I did that math and came up with 33/34 psi rating. However old school chalk line across tread showed that 40/41psi hot was clean line wear across the tire. 38psi cold heated to 40/41 psi in not towing/towing compare. So I have been keeping 38psi cold. I have been doing the chalk line trick on everything I ever owned and it has worked for 32 years. Dad taught it to me. Thank you for the math on recommended psi rating.
