Thanks for the updates @paflytyer ! Always good to have a guy on the ground to provide real intel.

I’m bringing the family down to enjoy the mountains and the company. For us it’s all about getting away for a bit and getting some fresh mountain air. See y’all next week!

@paflytyer gets to pop in and make the fluffy, kumbaya posts about transparency and refunds, meanwhile @Berney2000 and I are behind the scenes checking the PayPal invoices for $0.28 discrepancies and writing more #HIH9INSIDER code to keep the good ones in. :D

Anyways, nice to see all the positive feedback. See you in Silverton!

Excited as ever for HIH! Wouldn't miss my first one! If there's room, I'm in to ride the bike park in Telluride. Anyone else think this would be fun... Via Ferrata - Telluride Mountain Club

I'm in charge of fun and MWR. (Morale, Welfare and Recreation)

Someone has to crunch the numbers and calculate the costs. @bluecruiser and @Berney2000 are calculations, payroll and Excel wizards. I am not. Again, fun is my department.

Anyone coming out from Southern California? We are coming out Tuesday and spending the night in Flagstaff. Hoping to roll into Silverton around 2pm on Wednesday.

I’m heading out from Riverside Saturday morning. Spending 3 days in Durango then heading to Silverton on a Wednesday.

We've considered doing a Via Ferrata outing at HIH, but liability and experience is a huge issue. It's not for the faint of heart. You also need a harness and a helmet and we do not want to be responsible for improperly fitting gear, inexperience or unfamiliarity with climbing and the possibility of someone freaking out.

If you have the experience and the gear, it's an incredible adventure. @aegustafson (HIH Hooligan in a 40) has done it multiple times and would be our best resource for anyone with questions.

An additional problem is the road up to Bridal Veil Falls is closed due to a huge washout. You can hike it from the bottom but you'll need some extra shoes to cross the creek that is washing the road away.

Can’t stop us from coming!

You can sign the #poughkeepsiepitcrew up for snow removal! ;)
Maybe I should bring some extra shovels. I was up near antero this weekend and the miner dudes were putting in work clearing snow/slides to get their own supplies up and down.

I think I’m coming out ahead since I have no clue about the trails and just picked names based on easy, medium, and hard. :)

If the trail run we signed up for is closed do we need to change it online or will the trail leader just change our whole group to something else?

Either way couldn’t be more stoked to come.

Here is a great resource for info. San Juan JEEP ROADS

Updated by county workers and road crews.

Here are some photos from yesterday.

OMG Stan, after seeing this pic I'm even more bummed that we won't be making it out from Boston this year! Who the heck would even think about canceling after seeing this pic? Pack your skis and snowboards fellas and maybe an ice axe for the polar plunge! Life's best memories are made from the unexpected. See y'all for HIH10!

Well damn guys, I hate to have to do this, but I've got to back out. My dad just called and told me my grandfather is not expected to make it though the weekend, so I'm making plans to fly back east to be with my family and to attend the funeral next week.

Sorry to everyone that was signed up for one of my runs, I'll have to catch you guys next year!

Also, to everyone, don't back out! Show up in force and support the town of Silverton and see some epic amounts of snow in late July! Just because some trails are closed does not mean you'll have a bad time. That area of the state is a wonderland. Stan and Chris are great dudes and they'll make it a great time no matter the conditions.

Gotta group riding purgatory bike park Tuesday before. Riding Telluride bike park Saturday of event.

Awesome! We’ll miss Tuesday, but I’m hoping to talk my passengers into Saturday. Right now we’re scheduled for Alpine, but we’re fluid. Unfortunately coming from Florida we’re more used to the biking part than “mountain”. 🤷‍♂️ Even though we have great parks in our old phosphate mines, it’s not exactly the same. Passengers are a bit nervous, but I’m just worried about my lungs!

I remember when this thing was bone stock. Only a couple years ago!
.......except for sliders that saved my truck on black bear, trucks a bit different now but was very capable in stock form. Looking forward to another awesome experience....better pack some dominos this time.

I'm in charge of fun and MWR. (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) That's a Marine Corps term that only my fellow hardchargers will get.

Someone has to crunch the numbers and calculate the costs. @bluecruiser and @Berney2000 are calculations, payroll and Excel wizards. I am not. Again, fun is my department.

A few more than just the hardchargers might get it! I always chucked walking in. “MWR, those are my initials”

@paflytyer and @bluecruiser thanks for the update, but for me and probably quite a few others, this trip is about a lot more than a specific trail. I love HIH because it gives me an opportunity to spend solo time with my kids, show them the country, visit friends I don't often get to see, and generally do stuff my wife has no interest in doing (e.g., sleeping in a tent and living out of a car).

This trip will be great for us with or without Black Bear. Thanks for all your hard work pulling it all together.

I hate oversharing. I’m actually pretty private.

But I ended up in the ER Saturday and today with “heart attack” symptoms.

My first thought was “don’t die”.

My second thought was “I really don’t want to miss HIH9”.

Priorities....

See you Wednesday!
