Magnaflow!

Nice! How does it sound on the V6?

-Daniel Kent

Good, and interesting. It has a deep sound and gets really mean sounding as the revs increase. Under load in the lower RPMs it has an interesting burble to it. Highway driving isn't bad as I barely notice the increased noise, there's barely any droning.

This is my 2nd Magnaflow and I love them both.

Right on! We have a Magnaflow on our '05 4R V8. Good to know it sounds good on the V6 as well... Keep us posted on the performance changes you see with it. :)

I love the sound of Magnaflows! As for the alignment, I just go to HM Motorsports...

Hmm, I think I know those guys... :grinpimp:

May be a little far to drive if the alignment is off though.

For sure! I've been playing with it the last few days to get a feel for it, there may be some mid-top end performance gains but I may just be driving it harder. Either way the grin factor alone is worth it.

Got a few things done this morning after a doctor appointment (no thanks to my damn sore shoulder from a Tetanus shot).

Tried super gluing the center console hinge as it's had a crack in it since I got it. It immediately cracked again. Thanks Toyota. :flipoff2:

Swapped out the dead light bulbs in the defog and hazard switches for some generic Radioshack units. I'll be damned if I'll pay $10/bulb for the Toyota pieces. I *think* I've finally chased down every bulb that's out. I took some pics in case someone else wants to see how this is done.

New little guys.

Toyota bulb holder.

Run the wires through, wrap around like the stock ones were, trim off the excess. (Make sure the wires aren't twisted/crossed inside the holder or they'll short out)

Let there be light! (look in the tiny holes)

And while I had the console apart, I tucked the CB up 1/4". I it looks a lot better now IMO.

Current (somewhat near future-ish) plans:

Build the damn sliders! I've been trying to get house stuff done first, but my back started acting up recently so that's been on hold. Gotta get my honey-do work done or else my wife will kill me for spending a couple days on the 4runner.

Install the lift spacers once the sliders are in, along with a 1/2"-ish DIY diff drop (aka longer bolts and a stack of washers).

Cobble together some sort of swaybar disconnects for the front. The rear flexes well already so I won't mess with that.

Raise the trailer hitch for clearance. I'm thinking we'll chop off the low hanging portion and tuck it into the main bar of the hitch. I'll do this the same time as the sliders.

Install the tranny cooler. I feel like a potential strawberry milkshake is looming over my head and I don't want it to happen.

I noticed that the valve cover gaskets are starting to weep a bit of oil... craaaaap. I'll probably put them off until they start leaking more.

Once I sell some more crap (and get our tax return :D) I'll pick up some 4.30 E-locked diffs. Thankfully my truck is pre-wired for the E-locker so the retrofit will be easy. Then I can find some 255/85/16s to run. I'd love some Cooper STs but I'll take whatever I can find cheaply! My current 265/70/16 Hankooks are around 80% and I can sell them to recoup some of the cost.

That's it for now.

Oh yeah, I did end up putting a piece of thin filter material over the mesh in my deckplate mod. I was getting some light spray up there so I wanted to prevent a wet air filter.

I've been thinking about this... option #2 I've been considering, which will be cheaper:

Keep the 4.10s I have now, Aussie locker in the rear, and run some 32s (265/75/16). This way will save me a few hundred dollars (and a lot of time). The overall gearing will be almost the same (4.10/32s, 4.30/33s) and the 32s will fit without any pinch weld pounding or fender liner chopping. Another added benefit is 265/75/16s are a LOT easier to find than 255/85/16s.

Any thoughts?

EDIT:

I guess I could also do the 4.30s/E locker and just run 32s. It would be nice to have some lower gearing. Hmmm.......

I think you need to take a good long look at what the end goal for the Runner is...

I definitely gave up on making it a hardcore wheeler, a dedicated rig makes a lot more sense for that. Once I'm back working full time I'll start working on that goal.

I want to limit the 4runner to a daily/camping/mountain bike/light wheeler. Which is why the selectable locker makes sense to me. Still has the best road manners and works great offroad. Like you've said before, having something I can play with in the meantime makes more sense than a long term build that I can't drive for years.

If I can pick up the 4.30 diffs for a good price I may as well go for the retrofit.

As the proud owner of a New-to-Me 1998 Limited I hopped over into the 95+ Forum to check it out. I like the build so far, looks nice. Not sure where you are on the To-Do list, but I started mulling over on Toyota-4Runner.org and found a thread for a Shrockworks Group-Buy. Any Toyota part 15% off.

Damn, that's a good group buy! Alas, my budget is pretty slim right now since I'm back in college full time. I'll be welding up some simple box tube step/sliders with the help of a pro fab friend of mine.

Simple box tube?!?

Man you are going cheap! :flipoff2:

Bwahahaha yeah, I gotta go that cheap! College budget sliders. :grinpimp:

Or 4x2x.120 wall rectangle tubing. Either way.

What do you think about the future plans for the 4runner? It'll be a bit before I have enough saved up for the diffs so I'm still exploring my options...

By an aggressive 32" and a lunchbox locker. Keep it stock geared and start building a real toy.

I kinda knew you'd say that. It makes sense too.

I've just heard iffy things about 32s with 4.10s on these rigs, like a noticeable loss of power.
