I'm new here, just wanted to say hello. Hope someone can help me ! I have a 94 pickup 22re that has never given me a minutes trouble until friday night. I was driving home and it just started missing/skipping badly. I made it home and said i'd just check it out tomorrow. Well I went out the next day and it wouldn't even start. Checked it out and couldnt find nothing... Later in the day I tried it again, and it fired right up, but still has a bad skip. Has started ever since. I have checked timing, fp, put a set of plugs in it, and even took the valve cover off to see if it had jumped timing. NOTHING, the chain was loose, but the guides looked fine, and it isn't rubbing nothing. I'm going to do a compression test later, but I'm thinking its electrical ??? What do I need to check ??? Any ideas ???
thanks
Brad

Thats something i've been wondering about. I havent been really sure how to check it. I also have thought about the distributer, but dont know what the correct way to check it would be.
Thanks

What makes you think it is a "lifter"(rocker)? Is there too much gap? I would think it is a stuck valve, really.

Could be, its rattling pretty good. When its making noise, it skipps, when the engine is quiet it runs fine. I added some trans fluid to the engine, but it hasn't helped.:frown:

check the compression and pull the valve cover and visually check the TC, and also by rotating it.

Before I say what kind of compression #'s I have, what would be decent #s for a 150,000+ miles engine ?

As to it not cranking that 1 time I haven't figured it out either. It only happened that 1 time and has cranked perfect ever since...

compression spec is 172 lbs

to check for burnt valves, use a vacuum gauge. a fluxuation in the reading indicates valve problems.

im just sayin how to check, not that i think this is the problem
