It's actually very easy to replace, you only need to buy the mast, and as far as I know the dealer is the only place to get one. It's a common thing, your dealer should be able to hook you up, I'm guessing the part will be about $30.

One caution: Just fixed the antenna on my old Mercedes (same procedure). Part of the old mast was broken off inside the motor, so the new mast would not retract the whole way in. Left about 2" outside. Had to disassemble the motor (1/2 :banana:job), and remove the old mast piece. I installed the new while the motor was apart (also 1/2 ), reassembled the whole mess, and voila! Works great. :cheers:Ned

Your write-up is cool and all... but that's waaay more work than necessary. You do not need to get into the motor or fender at all. It's designed to be easily replaced. I wish I could remember the procedure, but I watched a guy do it once on his sister's '95 4Runner, the entire job took all of 2 mins, no exaggeration.

You can do the 2 minute job if you don't want to get the broken piece out.... or if yours is not broken yet.... Which is what I said in the write up..... :D

It's a half hour job to remove the motor.... so it's not that big of a deal...

I remember hearing about a OEM alternative option for the 4runner power antenna. I really like the antenna on my jeep, its just a flexible piece of metal, if I need to take it off all I gotta do is unscrew it.
Does anyone have any pictures of this? I like keeping my rig all oem toyota.

cheers
