hey guys! i am a female, and try to work on my truck myself( just a single mom, who like to work on my truck)i have a 92 4runnur v6 4x4 sr5, she is trying to fall apart on me and i am in the process of rebuilding. i am stuck on my brake booster!! it is whistling a high pitched whistle every time i stop! i just put it in , but the part was a junk yard part. any tips on what i can do to check the booster i have on and how do i check the part if i have to buy another one from the yard? :bang:

You'll get better advice if you post this in the correct section. I realize the "90-series" title may have led you here, but this section is for a type of Land Cruiser, not by year. Perhaps the moderator will move this to the proper section, which will be the 79-95 Truck section.

You could post an approximate location, perhaps there is someone local that may be able to give you a hand. I mean not threat with this, just trying to help.

It sounds to me like the booster you have now has a hole in the diaphram. This is the risk with buying junkyard parts. You could also put a post in the "Parts Wanted" section to see if someone has a good working one. And there's always eBay...

Sounds like a pin hole in the booster to me too... The way to test your booster and a junk yard booster would be a hand held vacuum pump:

You hook the pump up to the booster and apply some vacuum, if the booster is leaking it will not hold vacuum. If it holds vacuum then it's good. Kudos to you for wanting to learn about your truck! And welcome to Mud!

If you quickly accelerate and quickly switch to the brake pedal....is there a delay in the response from the breaking?

Im betting you just got a bad booster. There isnt much to them, just the vacuum line.
