89 4Runner - 3" Ball Joint Spacer - Bolts breaking

So my brother in law owns the lifted red 89 4Runner many have seen running around town, and in Brookside (he works at a shop down there on douglas and wornall).

Yesterday as we were cleaning up his garage, he noticed a bolt head lying on the ground, and found it was another one from his driver side 3" ball joint spacer. He said he has broken a few of them.

Do any of you 1st gen 4runner owners have any experience with this or advice? He is considering just using shorter bolt for now. He hasn't wheeled it yet (I think I should be able to get him to SMORR) so it's really just from highway use.

Oh yeah...his is still IFS up front...hasn't done the SAS yet.
