my 89 4Runner has developed an issue where it will stumble and jerks a bit on light throttle, so when im just keeping a constant speed cruising, it dose it in ever gear, but as soon is a give it some gas, or apply the brakes it goes away.

Google pointed me to a forum that indicated the AFM could be the issue (or was for another guy).. at one point a Shade Tree mechanic had adjusted mine but i believe i got it back to factory specs..

I Also had an issue this winter where it would Idle High on Start up.. could be related

Any help is Greatly Appreciated!

The first thing I would check would be the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). Make sure it's properly adjusted.

Also, have you checked to see if there are any codes stored in the ECU?

Howdy! Also check the socket connector on that TPS. Mine was wobbling around just enough on street bumps that it was occasionally doing very similar to yours. John

poor grounds

suspect ECT, but not all your symptoms point to this.

to tweek a AFM, all a guy would do is turn the wheel inside, which adjusts rich and lean mixture.

(fyi) :D

the EGR could also cause this, as its only desinged to kick on at higher speeds with load.
if its turnin on with no throttle, you could eliminate it ( temporaliy) by disconnecting the hose to the valve.

also, you can monitor the O2 sensor by probing the ECU to determine rich and lean conditions.

this would help verifying if the AFM is set properly
