They are cheap and soft, just fine for the trail riding. Think they would be to soft for a street ride, Albert used the 9000's on his 4runner.
Good question. I have the 9000's and will not purchase them again for a street truck way way to soft in my opinion. I have some Dostech prerunner shocks on the 1st Toyota I built and like alot more.(they cost more, keep that in mind) At least it was not an expensive mistake putting them on the 4Runner

are they soft to the point of being dangerous on the road?

short answer yes. I would not buy them again.. because the shocks are soft I get "body sway" in the curves or on roads that are worn from the big heavy 18 wheeler trucks( not picking on big trucks) but the truck just feels unsafe. As soon as funds allow I'm upgrading the shocks to something better . If I press the brakes hard the front end instantly is on the front bump stops. The rear of my 4runner is not as bad because of the F-150 rear springs with overload.
There are better choices out there for less than a hundred more for a set.

Disclaimer: I am not an engineer, I do not work for any suspension companies this is just my personal experience. :D

John, that came out nice . I remember me and Linda riding in the back of your 4Runner trying to hold an umbrella for shade. That should work out much better.

Had crack issues with the front frame crossmember right above the spring hanger. The factory welds cracked between the frame rails and the crossmember. Fabbed up a 1/8" front reinforcement plate, 3/8" angle iron brace to tie in the frame rails to the crossmember, then tied in the frame to the spring hanger with some 1/2" plates with some shackle holes. Also welded the stock welds up before adding the new metal.
