I bought this beautiful 87 Xtracab Pickup that originally belonged to @KLF and then took on another life of its own when Ken sold it to @yotadude520. It changed hands a few times after Will owned it but I had been following this truck since Ken originally began posting his build. The stars finally aligned and I was able to buy it and have owned it now for a few months.
This truck was already restored so there hasn't been much work needed but as always, I've found some things I wanted to fix. The center console was missing some parts so I was able to find some on eBay and repainted the entire unit and replaced the leather shifter covers. Since this truck is one of my daily drivers along with my FJ60, I needed some cup holders so I installed a JC Customs shifter bezel cup holder. I think it turned out great!
The gauges on the dash didn't have a cover so I found one online and painted it to match the dash pad and then ordered a carpet dash cover for a 4Runner with the Inclinometer. It fit good but not great but it'll do the job for now. I did removed the air gauge that Ken originally installed as I couldn't find a gauge pod for 5 gauges, plus I didn't have an air compressor installed. I also had to replace the oil pressure gauge as it wasn't working correctly and went with a digital stepper motor style.
A few small updates I made was replacing the A/C bezel along with replacing the entire radio bezel. Ken used toggle switches and LEDs for the front and rear lockers he installed and installed the switches/LEDs just above the radio and had to drill holes into the bezel. This worked great but I thought it would look factory to use the factory switch holes in the bezel. So I bought some custom made switches from SwitchBoss.com.au along with some new LEDs and then installed them on two switch blank covers that I drilled holes in for the switch and LEDs. I also had a custom decal made that looks factory to show. how to use the lockers.
I also spent some time working on a solution to add lights to the ash tray and glove box. I was able to find an led that would screw into a drilled hole on the top of the ash tray guide and was low profile enough that it wouldn't catch on the ash tray as it slid out. I'm still working on a solution to mount the glove box factory switch so the light comes on when the glovebox is open. More to come on that once I get that figured out.
I'm all about making my truck look factory and functional and think these minor updates look great. Can't say enough about all the work Ken did to make this truck what it is today. His attention to detail shows in every inch of the truck and proud to own it.
