Well I started this project over a year ago. Its on the road now and is my DD. I picked up 2x 2L toyota diesel engines+ the wiring harness.

So everything is turn key but now its time for a turbo because 2L's are gut less.

Turbo is from a 1.6 TD jetta. I think it should be good

Has anyone used this turbo for the 2L before? I was told the waste gate has been shimmed to 17 psi but who knows? I will put a pyromter and boost gauge.

And yes I do hate breaking taps off.

Nice fab work and very nice welds. I'll be watching.

Wahoo! New tires and rims. Both off of craigslist.

50 bucks for 60% 315mm x 75mm? R16" dick cepek crushers

75 bucks for the 16" rims.

Mounted them myself. They are noisy but smooth up to 100 kms/ph

Did some dremeling on my manifold yesterday. Ported all exhaust hole to match the manifold gasket.

Today I will remove the broken tap and finish welding the turbo flange on.

I tried to match up the manifold exhaust holes to the pipe inside. So not to create any air turbulence.

Soo.... I ditched the old turbo backing plate and started fresh. I also changed my idea of drill/tapping it and went out and bought some studs.
Although I might have got a little ahead of myself with design I still think i made a bit o progress.

I used a ball peen hammer to make a template out of an old beer box. A little trick to make gaskets too!

Torched out the center hole and die grinded to perfection ;)

I cleaned up the threads on the turbo because of heat distortion.

Now I have to match up these two pictures. I could have thought a little more on turbo positioning. Now my studs are kind of in the way. Either clock the compressor side of the turbo or I am going to have to get fancy on my fabricating skills.

This is low clearance turbo setup so the hood can close. But not an easy connection:(

This is The hood scoop turbo setup. easier to connect the dots and probably the direction I am going to go. Time to start looking for a hood scoop. I cant way to get this manifold done. My truck is gutless now that I put those 33's on.

The mock up is just on an old 2L I had. I still use my truck as a DD so its better that I don't remove the exhaust manifold until the turbo install.

Last but not least is just a picture of my back yard with my cruiser hiding out in the bushes and the tiny home I have been slowly building for the past 2 years.

Yes, some sad looking tar paper:( I recently just had a kid so projects are on slow mode.

Looking really good and cool house too! Keep the updates coming.

Im going to get the machinist to put a 2 degree slope on the engine side of the manifold due to some interference. I am pretty happy with the results.

Welcome to the diesel section Julian! Good to see a non landcruiser build, there are plenty of people in here with a wealth of knowledge to help you out along the way.

Thanks serenity! But I have been bj60 owner and blogger for about 8 years now.
