86 runner A/C woes

ok, guru's my 86 has factory air, checked fuses..good, belts, good... the light turns on, but thats its...everything is there, does the A/C unit have a fail safe, ie if not charged, wont turn on?

Yeah, if the system has discharged due to a leak, the compressor will not turn on... Pull the cap on one of the Schrader valves and push the valve open for a second... if nothing comes out, then you probably have a leak.. if something does come out, then it's time to look at the wiring.
