Hey guys. i have just replaced the HG on my truck and everything went smoothly. timing is ok. I have repeatedly studied the procedure for stabbing the dizzy and never took the sprocket of the chain in the process. I had zip tied it in three places. i did not put a light on it but she starts right up and runs ok. will not idle well though. seems like shes missing a bit. i did twist the dizzy while running and best spot is in the middle. I will put a light on it, i just have to buy one. Now, my question is could i have messed something else up? I do hear a hissing sounds somewhere around the carb that was not there before. It is pretty audible, and i do not remember having it prior to the gasket job. I did download the fsm and put everything back together as per the diagrams. what should i be looking for in the process of trying to diagnose the issue? She shakes a bit at idle. as if it misses or something. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks in advance. Oh and i do know of the search function, is just that i cannot find anything related.

Hissing is probably a vacuum leak. Make sure you have all the bits and pieces reconnected properly. Pix would help . This would make a BIG difference in the way it runs. John

look on the side of the intake and make sure you got those lines put back on. those will make an audible noise as they are big

So upon leaving for work in the morning I looked under the hood to see if I had missed something. I did find what I hope to be the problem. Can someone tell me what hose goes on this fitting? I have been looking at diagrams and under the hood and I cannot find a loose hose. Obviously, closer scrutiny is required, since I was just leaving for work but maybe some of you already know which hose goes here. Pics attached.
Thanks.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. It does look like it's always had a hose on that fitting, or spigot, or whatever I should call it.

ok so the hissing turned out to be that particular fitting coming off the base of the carb or intake mani. i capped it and the truck runs beautiful. if i uncap it it runs like s*** and whistles like a train. anyhow, my problem is now fixed but the question is what hose gets connected there. I cannot see a loose hose anywhere under my hood and i am sure there was one prior to me removing everything. i might have to remove the air box again. any way, if anyone knows what hose goes there maybe they can share. please see the pics above in the post. thanks to all for all their help.

One more question I have about the truck. The brake pedal is really stiff after the hg replacement. What gives. Anyone have any idea? Thanks in advance.

cant remember on a 22r but is that where your brake booster hose needs to be plugged in?

sounds like that would fix both problems..

thanks, i figured as much. I just cant find the friggin hose hanging anywhere. Might have to take off air box to locate it.

it runs from your brake booster along the firewall above all the engine bs.

Yep, I scrutinized the whole thing. The booster has all hoses connected. In fact they go inside the fire wall. Does anyone have a picture of the factory stock setup so I can get an idea as to what am I missing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

goes inside the firewall???

Thanks for the post. U know. Ironically I did find the hose tucked on the firewall before checking to see if anyone posted pictures. It was nicely tucked out of the way looking as if it was connected already to something on the firewall. I must ve put it out of the way and forgot about it. The thing is I was looking for a skinnier hose. Thanks a lot for your help. My brakes are perfect and so does run the truck.
