I'm trying to figure out:

1.) if what I'm looking at on my block is the knock sensor...located below the oil filter

2.) if that looks like the correct knock sensor for a 85' 22re

3.) what is the sensor I have photographed below on the white back ground.

The other image shows what is connected to the sensor on my block below the oil filter.

looks like an oil pressure switch to me. ground the wire and if the oil light comes on then you know(as long as the circuit is good). if you remove the sensor and oil comes out of the hole then it is the oil pressure switch, also if the sensor is in a blind hole then it is the knock sensor. i actually dont think you have a knock sensor. if you do, its ability to have any effect on the timing is very limited and it is easy to test. what kind of problems are you having?

My issue

I have no real history on the truck.

When it ran, the timing was at 13 degrees advanced...and ran real rough and rich. I had no more adjustment in the dizzy to retard so I pulled the dizzy and moved one tooth. After that it wouldn't start. So I went back to spec. set at 5 degees reinstalled the dizzy. Now it starts, runs smooth for about a minute then dies.

It is throwing a #12 code (knock sensor). So I'm tyring to chase that down.

I have tested the TPS, MAF - cleaned the EGR, replaced plugs.

SO i'm basically chaising down the normal bugs of the 22re. Which acording to the FSM does have a knock sensor.

I think the knock sensor is above the oil filter.... Don't ground out that wire if you have a oil pressure gauge you will burn the gauge up. If you have an idiot light it should be fine.... That's if it's for the oil pressure sender. I would tape up the end of the wire, start the thing and see if the oil gauge/light is either not coming up(Gauge), or staying on (Light), then it's the oil P.S.

Nope, that is the oil pressure sender. It's actually just a simple switch, turns the light on inside the dash cluster.

Nope. See #1.

THAT is a knock sensor. Yes, the 22RE has one. It is located on the block slightly above the oil filter, to the left (towards the rear). It's kinda hard to see hiding under the intake. Here's a tech article from LC Enginerring where they talk about relocating it for high compression pistons:

The other image shows what is connected to the sensor on my block below the oil filter.

That is the connector for the oil pressure sender.

Found it...you aren't kidding it's hard to find. Also found out the cable was very loose on the sensor...I can't seem to get it to snap into place. I'll get that fixed today.

Thanks for the help everyone:cheers:
