I have a 85/86 IFS Carb pick up. I have a chance to buy a rolled '83. Would the engine/ transmission/ transfer case be the same. Would the solid front axe of the 83' be a good candidate for a swap in my 85/86'?

The '83 is going to have the 22R, the L52 5-speed, and a RF1A 21 spline gear driven transfer case.

The '83 front axle isn't gusseted as heavily as the '84/'85 solid front axle. The '86 also got the R151F 5-speed and a RF1A 23 spline t-case.

So unless you have issues with your engine, trans, and t-case, I'd keep the later ones.

Only in the Turbo model. Carb'd trucks should have a G-series trans (which is still better than an L52).

Oops. Yep. You're right. Looked at the wrong column. Should have been a G52 behind the 22R.

Say I could buy the whole works for $100, would it be worth it for the axle?

I've seen the axles go for more than that, so I'd do it. You can probably make several times that selling off the other parts.

Not sure what the prices things go for where you are, But if I had the opportunity to pick up a rolled 83 for $100 it would already be loaded on my trailer as I was trying this ;)
