WOW

Awesome and more words that just don’t fit.. I sure hope when you’re done with this amazing endeavor, you can actually drive it in the rocks……. :crybaby: You may have the cleanest vintage cruiser out there when your done. Love it and love to see the dedication..

I know I keep saying "great job", but seriously.

"GREAT JOB"

seriously.

can you show us how you treat the metal after you weld for rust prevention? are you using Por-15?

Body Work

Got 2 hours on the 60 this morning. Got the outside fender well wrapped up and a few odds and ends cleaned up on the driver side. A few more patches to weld in and the driver side will be done - maybe a few more hours?

Thanks

Thanks all for the kind words !

It is definitely not a show quality truck! ;p My goal is to remove the rust. There will plenty of filler to hide my flaws!!! Besides, my wavy wheel wells will look better than rusty ones! :grinpimp:

And yes, I will take it wheelin' and it will get used!

My goal is to bring the entire body in for a media blast (star blast product). Once it is all down to bare metal, I will be using an epoxy primer and seam sealer. Once I am done with paint, I will spray some kind of oil/lubricant into the hard to reach areas. I won't keep rust from coming back, but I will sure get another 10-15 years out of it!

Body Work

I got 1hr 10mins on the 60 this afternoon. I finished up the driver side! :bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:.

I got the last two patches welded back in. The first one was for inside the rear quarter panel and provided back support for the floor. I simply cut the rusty section off and plug welded it back in (both sides primered on the sandwich). The second one was the support for the rear seat bracket. I was going to duplicate the same piece that came out, but it would have been welded right over the top of the first piece I attached - so, I went with a wide, short and ugly patch.

And plug welded into place:

And welded into place (oh how pretty!):

You Sir are a sick, sick man.

I would have been completely humbled by this build a long time ago and sold it off at a loss like many of my other started but not finished projects.

Keep up the good work. I wish I had your skills and patience.

Body Work

Got 50 minutes on the 60 last night. I got the rear landcruiser badge holes welded up and ground flat on the passenger side. I also started to separate the rear quarter panel patch parts I have. I have to wire wheel and drill apart the panels to get them mounted up nicely.

Holes welded up:

Body Work

Got 2hr 30min on the 60 today. Sorry for the lack of posts - I have been on travel duty for work lately. No pics today, the wife took the kids to see Thomas the Train and took the camera.

I got the patch panel all separated. Just need to finish removing the rusted out section from the truck.

I also got a stud weld gun from HF. Works like a champ! I can weld on studs and pull them out quite easily. I will show some fixes when the camera comes back.

God's Wounds, Man! You've done a lot of work!

I kneel at your feet, back bowed, palms to Earth... ;p

Body Work

Got 1hr 10min on the 60 tonight.

I got the passenger side quarter panel cut off and spot welds removed. Believe it or not, the outside was worse, but the inside was better on the passenger side... not sure how that works out, but I'll take it.

Here is the handy work from the stud gun... you can see the holes from the studs I ripped off, not cut off:

Cleaned up some of the inside wheel well on the passenger side (feels like deja-vu ):

Hey man, looking good! Where did you end up picking up the stud gun? How's it working for you?

I got the stud gun from Harbor Freight. They are on sale for $97 bucks right now. Only thing I don't like is the slide hammer... works ok, but it has a cam lock to hold onto the pin - easy on/off, but doesn't look like it will last for my grandchildren.
