The 80's air cleaner is one of its many nice touches. It is already cold air intake from the fender chamber. Mostly metal and well built, has a centrifugal pre cleaner that gets out the big stuff before it gets to the filter. The stock air filter on the 80 is quite large and has much more surface area than the one you linked to,

I don’t think you will get any performance increase from that cheesy filter, you may see a decrease.

The hood scoop may look cool on your truck, slap it on to direct air down the exhaust side and call it engine bay cooling.

There was a very informative post on another forum about a Heep guy going through a lot of simple but good testing before placing a hood scoop for engine bay cooling, anybody remember that link?

I agree great hood louvers write up

LX before you start cutting holes in your hood why not put your 80 on a dyno and run as-is then disconnect the air cleaner and re-run to see what possible gain if any exists?

Yeah i know about the V-Engine and bank of cylinders each side.C'mon guys i posted the thread not to talk about the dual system.. okay to end the story and clarify how the dual system:

Duuuuddddeeee, you got several answers already, and the analogy is that the dual exhaust system is not helping your performance in any way, and neither will the bling bling air filter. All show, no go. Some of us here are actually attempting to help!

LandCruiserPhil, Hey thanks for the links. The 48 temperature sensors very interesting.By the way do you have pics what the sensor looks like?
Thats true what you said about the possible gain..so far here in Southern CA i havent seen people dyno on the AWD I may have to do some research.
Do you think that this probably will have share same methods the single highest temperature recorded in this effort was located 4-inches in front of the firewall, and 6-inches off the center toward the driver side.

LX if you are ever in the area (Scottsdale AZ) there a AWD down the street.

I shot my hood with a temp gun but it’s hard to get true readings with the hood insulation. The highest temp reading was above the battery - no insulation. Above my SC was the highest reading, but the SC is pressed against the insulation. The yarn/air tunnel trick was the most interesting to me because I'm looking to pull the air out at speed.

So call me slow on the uptake but I have just figured out from your website photos of your truck that you are endLESS with a name change. I figured you were just a friend of endLESS. I should have recognized the grammar :D

Anyway, I agree with the comments here. apart from the fact it may not fit, won't work, and will probably break stuff and maybe even wreck your motor, it looks like a jello made in a bundt cake mold. Skip it and save up for a supercharger or a turbo if you want to go faster.

80 Guys help me on this will ya... Im thinking to get rid off the black round filter housing and add the Hi flow filter, Sorry not SNORKEL fan here :D anyways,
yea so it'll be the filter - intake adapter -connect to the factory sensor, also im gonna have the body shop to cut square hole and cover 'em with air scoop so the fresh cold air can go right into the filter.
Im so curious with this one :

Do you guys think from ebay pics the intake adapter will fit directly to 80 mass sensor?

P.S- I already got the hood scoop from '86 nissan 300zx just need lil body work and paint match.

Thanks for help

Not that I fully understand what you're trying to do but.... What happens when it rains?

Hey I like the dual exhaust look, who cares about performance, like you said it's a 5000lb rock anyway. Just hope that exhaust don't sound like a riceboy's civic!

I have a K&N "filter charger" on both my supra and mini, works ok on the supra, pretty s***ty on the mini. Makes the mini run leaner, I'm working on a way to richen the mix back up, (probably a resistor on the temp sensor, and I don't know if this is even possible on the 80 without kicking the cel on). Don't belive the hp gains EVER, all the filter MIGHT do is give you a quicker throttle response.

IMO, for the bling factor, get the filter tank chromed...hell drill some holes around the sides so it sucks better, and get a polished tube made.

Wasn't there a guy here lookin to trade his scooped hood for a reg one. Maybe he is close to you and can tell you about what he found with a hood scoop. Just a thought.

I have a friend who also hates snorkel but wanted to get some cooler air to his supercharged 4.6 LR. He accomplished this by cutting a hole on the side and used a small scoop to direct air into the filter. I believe he used a scoop found in a marine store; ie bilge pump, etc. I guess it worked ok but you can definitely hear a whistle during hard accelerations.

He hated the scoop so much and couldn't find anyone to trade hoods with so he sold his rig? ;) Or am I confusing that with someone else? :D

Did he sell it or is it the one he's dismantled? I know he's parting an 80 out and will be dropping a FJ45 body onto it to create a FZJ45.
