6. How the truck is used. Daily driver and future plans for light off road.
I want to keep it stock. I have never done any off road, but am planning on doing some light off road driving. I have really enjoyed the capability of the vehicle on road under severe weather conditions and want to see what it will do in stock form.
I've owned it since '96, used as a daily driver, and then I let my kids drive it in High School. It had gotten a little rough and I started fixing a few things. One thing led to another, and now I am "repossessing" it from the kids as I get it whipped into shape. Largely inspired from reading the MUD site. You can see the dent in front of the driver side tail light. My oldest daughter almost drove it through the garage. You can read the license plate in the drywall, and the brick is pushed out about 3 inches. My youngest just nicked the passenger side tail lamp.
Over the last week, I had a new power steering pump installed, new shocks and new tires. I ordered a steering wheel shroud cover. Took off the rusted running boards. I am in the process of doing a tune up, as well as having the fuel injector's cleaned. New front mud flaps. Future plans include fixing a couple of rust spots on the lift gate, maybe new leather in the front, and a new stereo. Oh yea -- the right passenger window isn't working for some reason-as of yesterday. And that's it. Maybe.
I took it out for a lengthy drive today and the ride/handling is spot on. I'm hoping that cleaning the injectors and the tune up will get the engine back to original conditions.
I was inspired by the engine quality. While looking for info on the web, I came across
this. I'm figuring these things must be bullet proof.
Meanwhile, I haven't done any mechanical work since I fixed a water pump in the 80's. So we shall see how it works out.
