Hello all, looking for some help. I replaced some parts on my 80 but it took 3 months due to my son being born, I replaced the belts, water pump, fan clutch, starter and battery. Now when I put the key in the dash lights up briefly but cuts out the second try to start. Zero turnover. I have checked the leads, and most fuses. Any ideas?

You can eliminate sm those things but the battery (ok maybe starter too). I know you said you checked the leads but it definitely sounds like a bad battery connection. Moving the battery cables around could have been the last straw for tired fusible links but the symptoms don't quite match up. Again, my money is on a bad battery connection

Thanks for the insight, I think you might be right on the fusible links, they look rough

Definitely check all your wiring and the fusible link. Easy continuity test. Make sure everything is hooked up correctly and all connections are clean. If you have really old original wiring, I'd recommend ether making or buying new wires for the large ground wires that ground the battery to the chassis and chassis to engine, and the large power wire that goes to the starter. When I bought our '91 the wires looked ok, but on further inspection water and other stuff had leaked into the heat shrink at the terminals and completely corroded the wire inside the sheathing. Does your battery have a full charge? Silly question, but some times its the stupid things that are easy to miss. Maybe also check the 50amp AM1 fuse in the engine compartment fuse box.

Thanks for the tips, all great advice! I will inspect all the wiring, I have a new battery holding 12.66 Volts and looks like I have good power to the grounds. I ordered 2 fusible links and will go about changing and inspecting all the fuses!
