Bruce is up next in the block of love. Grabbed the 35’s on stock 80 wheels from a friend and shop owner. Gonna take out the seats and maybe carpet while Matt does the heavy lifting for the axle rebuild. What he can’t complete on the weekends I’ll do my best to take up so we can get it all done in time to wheel. Made up some mouse spray tonight and will thoroughly dowse it over the next few weeks.

When we have motivation and a quick deadline we can get things done. Stripped and front axle out. Carpet has been pressure washed once and might get it one more time.

Try ammonia and pinesol, ammonia cuts grease, pinesol leaves smelling nice.

Was the original axle toast?
That is the original axle. The knuckles have been leaking bad for years and I need to swap on the hubs to compliment the part-time case that I have.

The housing needs a good cleaning, rust converting and coat of paint. Pulled it out so I can get better access to all the nooks. The Slee arms could use a good cleaning and coat of paint too. Just figure it was a good opportunity to do a good full overhaul on it.

Hoard much?

Mostly compliments of @Onur and the raisin back when he was a slinger in ATL, including his own personal 80 series seal driver!

The Mrs put the interior back together today while I stripped the front axle.

Buddy of mine has his 80 series up on BAT. Wonder how it will do, since its one of the older ones

a buddy of mine is wanting to sell his 97 LX 450. 2 owner truck. Has had a bunch of dumb fixes by the previous owner like spray painted bumpers Etc. It needs cleaned and some maintenance done. 360k miles on the original motor, but the HG has been done at some point. The frame is immaculate. Forgot to get a pic of it. No lockers. Runs and drives great. Needs seat gears, some ujoints, tires, AC needs to be charged, needs shocks, and probably hasn’t had the PHH done. Front and rear bumpers have been spray painted. Carpet isn’t very good

He only wants $4,500 for it. It’s up here in Memphis

Windshield resealed today. This is a royal PITA when you are short. I looked like I was mounting Bruce from the side 🤦🏻‍♀️. Looking forward to seeing how effective this fix is though. It’s been drippy dripping for 11 years.

$4500 vs actual $17000 not bad. BaT is nuts.

I've been scouring the web and forums and havent come up with any pre-fab mounting brackets for an awning with no roof rack. Bruce is neekid up top and we don't really want a rack but would like to have an awning for camping at night and such. Has anyone seen brackets for no rack? We may have to fab some up but was hoping to get something in the next week.

I’ve used rhino rack universal awning mounts and u bolts from Lowe’s to mount to factory racks on a couple cruisers. I also used them with Yakima rain gutter bars on my 80 when I took off the stock rack.

Battery suggestions welcome. Looking for a new battery for the 80. Tired of the optima specific box. Most places show a Group 27 as the proper size for an 80, but finding a group 27 AGM is proving a little difficult. X2Power from batteries plus has been the go to lately, but none in the system. Looked at a group 24 dual purpose X2, but not sure if the dual purpose is good or bad. Looking at diehard platinum, but not seeing group 27. Brand and size that you all have been using would be much appreciated.

Thanks

P.S. this is going in a new factory box with factory hold downs.

@jynx and I kicked some butt this weekend and got a ton done on the 80. Axle completely done refreshed and back under the truck. New battery box and battery installed. Brakes bled, fuel pump primed and Bruce fired up like he hadn’t been sitting for 2 years. Thought we both got struck by lightening, kept the garage from flooding and were done before 6. Transfer case shifter was having no part in the success party. We called it a night. Time for beer thirty after that.

Today after being in the car for 5 hours unexpectedly we got back home, went straight to work to figure out the t-case shifter situation. Turns out it the crank was seized in the aluminum housing. Matt screwed it to a table and began to take some frustration out on it with a dead blow hammer, some heat and sand paper got it out, cleaned up and fully functional. We have low range again! Time to get it tagged and drive it this week before we head to the Cove here in TN for the weekend. 🍻🍻

How does a $25,000 (in inflated Covid numbers) sell for $77,000?

This was a $15,000 truck January 2020

Agreed. Even, in January 2020, $15,000 would have been a "wow" moment for this truck. It's decent, but unremarkable.

This current sale has no basis in reality. Even if you took the first 1 off the mileage, it's still a stretch.

I guess you never know when the right 2 guys are going to want the same truck at the same time........
