I got no dog in this at all, but I have seen many a solid rig be passed over for high miles but has lockers... To me folks ask way too much of a premium for those lockers when a lunchbox out back and an ARB up front will take care of you, especially for something your not going to wheel hard, or ever...

Also, not to throw a wrench in the cogs, but if you aren't looking to beat on it, just build the hundy for your daily and pick up a nice GX470 for your better half. Prices are getting right and they are really nice rigs for the money.

I didn't even think about the gx470. I'll have a look. I just kinda figured the 80 would go more places than the 100. Chris priced out the 2.5 lift for the 100 already. This is kinda my last ditch effort before I throw in the towel on the 80 idea.

I'm not trying to discourage you from an 80, I'm an 80 guy. The 100s just never rang my bell, well there have been a couple but dark colors. Anyway if you want an 80, get an 80, but look for a solid truck with no rust, low miles and a done HG. The rest is just a little elbow grease. And after building the 4runner, all well within you skill set. You short commute won't really let comfort or mileage factor in. The 80 is the old jack of all trades, master of none. The 100 is going to give you more comfort and gizmos, and mo' powa for a solid driver that can also #EAF on the weekends as needed.

End of the day, your $$, your call. Go with gut, cause if you want the 80, the 100 will always leave you wanting, no matter how many bills you slide in her skirt.

Very very very well said. I've got my fingers crossed and praying for that 80 that fireman mentioned. Hopefully that one pulls through. It's very pretty. I prefer the 80s myself. We got the 100 for my fiancé because I wanted her driving a tank. Memphis drivers suck. She loves it. She was talking about getting a new rav 4 and me getting the 100, but I know she will hate it going from the cruiser. If the fireman 80 comes through. I can still make it to crawl and still have an amazing daily driver

If you need the off road capabilities of a solid axle over a 100 or GX you are wheeling the wrong truck in my opinion.

Wagons are heavy. Wide. Low. Full of glass.

100 IFS wins every battle but the flex battle and if you are looking for a ramp champ you should have kept the 4R

In all honesty. I want to be able to wheel 3s with you guys at crawl and not be stuck on 2 trails

Firemans LX is really nice. Buy it and be done.

If that one is not for you, and I can't imagine why it wouldn't be, I will have the white 80 finished some time in late June as it has been moved back to its original track. I may also have my black GX470 available in a few weeks. And, if you gotta have lockers in the 80 I will have them available from my parts truck too though I have no idea when I could get to that project. (Think months or do it yourself)

Best I can do.

I'm all in on firemans 80, if his friend says it's in the market for Sale. It's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm willing to wait on your lockers from the parts truck though. That would be perfect

This reminds me of talking Mardis or SHUSH off a ledge when they're looking for a different truck every other month :-)

Best advice I have is to swap vehicles with a friend of yours in town with an 80 and a 100 to see what you like. Drive each one for a week or so. You went "all in" on a 4Runner thinking it was the bees knees, and now you're thinking something else will be awesome sauce. The grass may be greener on the other side, but it will grow taller, or require different fertilizer, or... In other words, there is no absolutely perfect vehicle for all situations.

Best of luck to you in your soul-searching.

I only have expierience with robs 80 for a short drive. Figured it can't be any worse than a 22re motor haha there's a guy near me with a stocker 80. I'm sure he will let me drive it around town. If firemans 80 doesn't pan out I'll probably end up keeping the 100 and buying my fiancé a car instead. It's got iron man fcp shocks on it already so all I'd need is diff drop, torsion bars, and springs for a lift. And some tires.

Are you trying to choose between 80 and 100 in that you will sell your 100 if you buy an 80? If that's the case, I wouldn't go any farther. Stick with the 100. As Daryl said, 80s shine in certain areas, but you're overall taking a step backwards moving from 100 to 80, in my opinion.

Oh no, lol. I sold my 4Runner. My fiancé daily drives the 100. Two options for me are 1. If Fireman's friend will sell it to me. I'll buy the 80 and my fiancé continues to drive the 100. 2. Firemans friend doesn't want to sell the 80 I buy my fiancé a car. And I drive the 100. I'd rather have the 80. I have been working to get the 100 back to stock for her and she loves it. She was looking at rav 4s. I know she'll hate it after driving the 100

Aaaaand, just like that, I'm back to chopped liver. LOL

That's pretty funny considering Mardis started this thread!

Since you guys are turning into an 80's club, would you care if I occasionally throw out an 80 I am looking at and give me your thoughts...

Just go back to Plan A. Work a deal with Bossman. He's, literally, got all the bases covered for what you're wanting. Then, you have no more "if's" to consider.
