Same here except one thing...later when the original owner die (I myself,):frown: i just need to bury the cruiser in the ground next to my coffin otherwise my soul won't rest in peace

Now that is fo Sho!

It has been said by those that know, that the design life of the 1FZ-FE engine is 300,000 miles between rebuilds and it can be "rebuilt" 2 times.

At 150k miles you should be looking to change the oil, inspect all rubber items (hoses, belts, esp PHH) fix an EGR problem, replace O2 sensors, put new brushes in the alternator, replace the fan clutch, and put new contacts in the starter. Have the cooling system inspected carefully including checking for a leaking HG.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I have 435k on mine.

I'm less concerned with wear at 150K than I am with age. The rubber parts under the hood have a finite lifetime that is measured in heat cycles and the passage of time. Hard, brittle cracking hoses can cause no end of trouble and there's a fair number of them under there to deal with. Radiator tanks are plastic and get brittle with age.

As long as you don't overheat it, and the head gasket holds (don't overheat it) there's no reason the 1FZ can't go 300,000 miles before needing a rebuild although some do blow the head gasket even if well taken care of. I'd replace any suspicious hoses with new OEM ones, and replace the radiator if it hasn't been done. I rebuilt mine at 220K because the previous owner didn't replace hoses as preventative maintenance, overheated it and blew the head gasket. The wear in the engine was minimal, but the damage to the head was significant, so badly warped it had to be replaced.

Yeah, my 240,000 mile FZJ80 is definitely showing some drips and whatnot. I'm starting to smell antifreeze on occasion. I suspect it's because of leaks, not the HG since I'm not seeing any other signs, but it's time to chase those down before I find myself overheated somewhere.

Alternatively, there are complete 1FZ heads on Aliexpress... 🤣
I'm sure they're excellent.

I would say the 1FZ engine life is too long.

I have 283K miles on my engine original headgasket. had the car since 2007. it has small leak behind the valve cover still runs strong thinking of doing a rebuild or change all the seals. I got a quote to rebuild engine for 8k.

Your quote to rebuild, that is for parts and labor?

Correct me if I'm wrong but 8k is top end refresh.....not engine rebuild. You can get a new-used "rebuild engine" for 7k from.a MUD member here.

My topend refresh(HG) OEM parts and labor was 6.5k 3 years ago from Yota1 in Norcal.

That’s a great deal for you! Not for the shop.

Head Gaskets for the 1FZ-FE are like brake pads, it is all part of the PM according to most FZJ80s owners.
And yes, most engines with new HGs will last well over 300k+ miles.
