Here is the scoop, I have a shop to get the work done, we are finalizing numbers, going to build the prototype hopefully in the next two weeks. The only x factor here is that I am dropping off my DD for testing / fitting. After the prototype and jig are made, then we will look at a production runs in probably 10 unit increments. I am trying very hard to keep the price point were it was at roughly $440-450 including 2k latch and spring pin, and will have to see where the final labor contingent lays.

I'm really excited to see this as a reality. All of the parts will be plasma cut, should be extremely clean. When I do start taking orders, I will work from the original list first, then work through my PM list second, and through the thread list third. I expect there will be a lot of attrition, but the list looks to be a good one.

I am based in Vegas, so quick question: Outside of CM, what events are taking place in the radius of 300mi or so this spring and summer? This could be the exact excuse I need to get my lovely wife to attend some cruiser events with me.

Would you just sell/provide the detailed drawings for this?

I don't know yet, I'll have to see about that, not entirely up to me. I may just offer kits as well to build yourself, but that remains to be seen.

Awesome!

I will be in Vegas Mon-Thu. every week for the next several months.

Hopefully I am not too far down on the totem pole so I might be able to have it on my truck sooner rather than later. ;)

I still would love to get a HiLift/jack holder on it, too though. :D

LMK if you need me to volunteer my rig, as well.... I know it's a long shot but I thought I would try. ;)

Keep up the great work!

Mot

Hi Flank,

PM'd you.

Update: I have been traveling a ton lately for my job, but have progressed on this. The first example produced by my partner fabricator shop should be finished just about now. The fabrication and jig creation was delayed due to a death in his family.

Pending test fitting and my approval of the first sample, I will go ahead with lots of 10 carriers. Final cost to be determined but I am targeting the same price as before, plus covering the cost of packing materials. Now, the fun stuff: the logistics. I will have the lots of 10 produced, and will start the list in order previously stated. Due to the fact that the actual production speed is not entirely in my control, I will not make a statement as to lead times. Rather I will let the people on the list know that it is in production, and to earmark funds. When they are ready, I will let the people next in line know, and give a week to get funds sent. I'll be doing it this way to limit your risk and my liability in case my production partner does not deliver.

Sound good?

Sign me up!

Me too! How did I miss this?

How about some pics and field reports from that lucky first 5? I'm very interested, and pics with accolades just might push me (and a few dozen others) over the edge...

Tire Carrier

I'm IN !
pm'd you

Update: Production version with PICS

I just got my first copy of my carrier back from my fabrication partner. He has jigged the setup and we will begin some low run production. To keep costs low, we will be doing these as fill-in work in batches of 5. I gave him the go-ahead to start the first 5.
I understand that there are some new (old) rules being enforced on for selling stuff in tech, so Mods can PM me if I need to start a new thread in sales.

Here is the deal, I will not be taking deposits on these and not promising delivery dates. I am not a fab shop, not entirely in control of the timeline or completion time frames of these carriers. This is a hobby used to fund my own cruiser addiction. When I have 5 ready to ship or almost ready, I will let the next 5 people in line know. I will keep the line current from the start of this thread - I kept all emails and PMs. You will have a week to fund your purchase, and if you can't I need to move on in line. If you want to keep your place in line for the next round, I'm happy to bump you down.

Also - I looks like I will be able to offer the option of powder coating - like the pictures - As well.

-Only one version at this time - the hitch version.
-( I am looking into a swingout for the other side for gas / water cans)
- A Hi-Lift jack can easily be added via two drilled holes and bolts behind the tire on the bottom, but I will not be doing it. I plan on drilling mine and showing pics. The ability to fit a jack will depend on your tire size and wheel back spacing.
-Price uncoated raw metal - $455 + Shipping.
-Powder coating - $110

Now the pics: Tire shown is a 305x 16

Would you be willing to ship to Puerto Rico?
:D

It's domestic, not international, so no need for any other steps to ship, other than paying extra if shipped via UPS or FedEx, USPS should be same price but I've never shipped anything this big via USPS.

Very interested, Cash in hand! But I would need a shipping quote.

I am open to shipping to PR, when I get through my lineup. I am targeting 5 to 10 carriers a month - remember this is being done on the side. Will ramp up more if I can.

This is a list and order of the people I have received PMs from and my contact order:
1) tenmile
-FZJDoc
-Bikerider532
-Alaskacruiser
5)Pruboy
-Mot
-Schwein
-Fronkshawaii
-85badger
10)Bullmas1
-Kimosabe
-Mad Jack
-Land Crush
-Googe
15)kpudden
-Sicillian
-HK33
-Boodah24
-Rudler
20) Muathoj

Flank, this final product is great! Well done.

Any idea what it weighs?

Also any pictures of how it mounts up on the bumper? The back side more specifically.

Great! I will keep an eye on this thread to see how it goes in the next few months.

One Suggestion:

I know its in production right now but...

I would drill 2 holes on the opposite side of the mount, for future left side swingout upgrades, which you will probably offer.

At the moment from the pics you have 2 holes on the right side of the mount for the tire swingout but you left the left side of the mount whith no holes.

Just thinking ahead! :D

It weights roughly 80 lbs, as when I shipped them, they weighed about 86 in the packaging.

If you look at post 95, last picture, as well as the build thread, this requires drilling two holes right next to the tupperware on the right side. Two Grade 8 3/8" bolts hold there on frame cross member.

Can't really photograph the back, no room, there is a diagonal piece right in front of the bolts. On the 4 factory holes, two are threaded M12 superfine, two I used grade 8 1/2" SAE bolts with lock washers for the hitch mount.
