Long day and a long story but I'm out of a 100 and back with an 80

'96 with a :poop: ton of miles (365K) and issues to go with it. It's completely rust free though, and with some TLC should be able to hold her head high once again!

Paint is actually in great shape, minus hood and roof.

Will update more later.....

Hey, my 40th AE has ~360-365 on the clock, no rust and a smooth machine.

These were vehicles built to run, and run, and run.

IDK yours, but mine feels like a easy 500K rig, 1st owner did 250-275K in TN.

The West Coast has a ton of rust free rigs, never knew prior to my 40th that TN & AR is a great "honey hole" too.

Maybe these forklift motors are worth the hassle & HP deficiency after all....:hmm:

(I say this as for pure reliability & owning a LS3, I'd sooner run a 350K 1FZ-FE across a hostile desert than a 350K LSx)

It's a big American thing to swap a motor for more HP, but the 1FZ-FE is a torque based motor that I love myself. Add a S/C if you aren't pleased enough - cheaper & less $$ than a LSx swap just because you have anything close to 400K+.

Plus, there's something about a timing chain & redundant belts that is just so awesome over the Toyota timing belt motors, again personal opinion.

I bet your purchase price was far under the intrinsic value these hold too - 300K+ FZJ's are well bought, esp the e-lock ones:clap:

I love reading stories like these of 80's with super high miles. I have two, one with 271k and new HG and another 1fz that's in my rolled chassis that was rebuilt buy a shop the PO paid about 20k miles ago. The old engine runs very quietly while the rebuilt runs well but with mild valve train noise. I can't deside whether to swap motors soon, store the rebuilt until needed (maybe never) or sell the rebuilt engine or......... I tell people that my engine has 271k and they look shocked and assume it must be on its last leg. I don't think it even uses oil. 3500 miles on the oil and the stick reads full and never any smoke. I don't believe the 1fz could be as reliable or long lasting if it also provided the excitement that many seek. Life is a never ending series of tradeoffs.

I like. Good score

This one was local to me, I'd seen it a few times and it was the one that sparked my interest in Land Cruisers! Nice PO btw, I know they had a few Toyota's at the time we spoke about this 80.

Nice guy but was way off on his price; we ended up doing business though after reality started to set in.

I have a two page sheet from ACC with things she needs, including a recommended head job to get me another 200-300K out of this engine.

She's clean with zero rust anywhere. Keep and build up, or sell and start the search over is the question grrrrr.

Once I start putting $ into it there's no turning back, because I'd never be able to get it back. Deep down I feel like this platform is worth it
