ahh, glad you asked so i can see if i'm "normal". . . .

winter time, was averaging 12/13 L/100kms, suburb/city driving (110/120 on the highway) nothing colder than -10since i got the truck in march (i'm hearing guys way up north gettin closer to 15/17L/100kms with -30/-40 degree winters...crazy)

as spring approached, was closer to 12L/100kms, suburb/city driving (110/120 on the highway)

since it got warmer, on a long road trip at 95% highway use with 5 adults/luggage, easily did 11L/100kms going at around 110/120 kph with lots of hills through upstate NY and pennsylvania.

using gen49 diesel additive by powerup ('bout 8mls/10litres)

stock rims/tires, automatic, bonestock.

hopin to see 10L/100kms next time if i can consistently keep my speeds below 100kph...
hopin to see 9L/100kms if can cruise at 60/80 kph if i do a trip up north and avoid the highway just to see...

when gas light consistenly stays on, there's about 15L left (confirming other threads) givin me 100-150kms before runnin dry... (easily over 600kms before tank up with 15L left...)

wonderin what'll happen if i did the 3" exhaust and uppin the boost to 14psi....
. . . if (and when) i ran svo/wvo...
. . . if i ran an intercooler but stayin light on the gas pedal...
propane injection? water/methane injection??

My last fill up 75 liters and I drove 645 km gives me 11.62 l/100 km on city heavy traffic PoCo to Downtown Vancouver

I am getting 22mpg, both Pawel and I have manual hubs that is why our fuel economy is slightly better then the VX limited models with full time 4 wheel drive.

Since I installed the air-oil separator the intercharger is not plugged with oil anymore, also no more blue smoke.
The new injectors completely eliminated all remaining smoke.

From my records the mileage keeps improving with every fill, slightly...

More on that with time and more data...

Cooler weather and mixed driving I see about 22mpg. Last summer on a couple different highway trips I got 26mpg. That's with 265-75/16s and not too much extra weight on board. My rig is full time 4wd, and pretty well bone stock.

I set the trip meter after my 1st fill up, 506.3 km later and I put in 69 litres. So with a mix of city and highway thats 13.6l/100km or 17.3 mpg (US), or 7.4 km/litre. UNless my math is wrong, which is quite possible.
Not impressive, but I'll start feeding her the bio as has been suggested, change filters, and keep track to see how things go.
It does have full time 4wd with larger tires as well, so not sure how out of whack the odo/speedo are.

guess we're close to getting double the mileage the gasser 80's are gettin...

...but I'm sure you paid more than double the price of a gasser. My 94 cost me $8000.00 with shipping and importing. I think I could buy a lot of gas to make up the price difference ;).

I do think I'm a diesel guy at heart because my BJ60 is sitting uninsured at the grandparents. Haven't had the heart to officially put it up for sale.

Depends, I'm spending 55$ every 10 days now (64km daily round trip), just in my Echo. Thats adding up fast. It was only a year or so ago I could fill it up for 20 bucks.

yeah yeah, i hate it when this argument comes up!! doh! long term man, long term.... hmm let's see now...

keepin it simple with my ghetto math...
100 bucks to fill to get 700kms on diesel...
100 bucks to fill to get 500kms on gas... (500 km/tank about right on fj's??)

3500 kms on diesel is 500 bucks (and i know diesel is a tad more than regular)
3500 kms on gas is 700 bucks ( diesel saves 200 bucks)

say x 10 for an average of 35,000 km/year so that's 2000 bucks i save...

x at least 5 years and we're even! and i still got turbo diesel!
(and these are conservative, i think the diesels are more thriftier on fuel than my 700kms vs 500kms comparisons...)

man, i see now how a gasser is definitely doable in the short term (plus you can get em rigged up with goodies already!)... hmm, but with gas prices goin up and a viable option to run wvo/svo . . . i'm hopin i still made the right choice! so to get your money's worth, you gotta keep that 80 for a while...or/and grab one cheap from BC! :grinpimp:

man, i remember renting an echo and driving it from kaninaskis to vancouver and back and spending only 100 bucks in gas TOTAL for the round trip!

My FJ60 with the 3FE was more like 350km per tank, or 100 bucks. Also, your math is whacked. The result is that diesel is an even better deal.

lol. diesel IS the better deal as far as payin for fuel and the mileage you get out of a tank, that's all i tried to illustrate. so say 8G's for a gasser 80 vs say 16G's for a diesel 80, it would take 4 years in fuel savings (if you saved 2 grand/year) with diesel, to make up for that extra 8grand to own a jdm...but f'get the math, bottom line, you'd have to own a jdm diesel for the long run to reap the benefits.

We drove back from Prince George years ago, filled up at a station right on the outskirts, and the gas light started flashing as we were heading through Langley, 750 km later on 40 litres :)

Can I talk about the fuel economy of my 04 golf TDI now? :)

If I can keep my foot light on the skinny peddle, I can get 1000+km on 55 litre's of diesel :) :)

My BJ60 does pretty good at about 600km's on 70 litres, sure wish that TDI motor had more torque, I'd toss it in the 60 :)

diesel fuel has about 20 % more energy than gasoline , diesel fuel is almost 10% more expensive right now , imho its not a super alternative at the moment , the average diesel vehicle would get between 20 and 40 % better milage depending on maney variables , if you have a short commute i dont see the bennifit , the true advantage of the diesel is in its simplicity and in the fact that it has to be built much more robustly than a regular internal combustion engine , in the long run the lack of maintenance that is needed compared to a gasser would be the benifits to me .
