...I am pretty sure that the 1979's had square bezels? *(edit, just looked up the brochures in the archives, the square bezel first appeared in brochures in 1980)
Christian most car producer make a model changeover in autumn
so did Toyota with the square bezel in 1979.
My 43 was build in December 1979 so it came with the square one.
Cheers

15" and 16" split rims here in South Africa were Toyota Grey, although the shade varied over the years but not noticeable if you didn't put an early and a late one side by side. Interestingly enough, they were 1st sprayed black all over, and then only sprayed grey from the wheel nut side [front face] which resulted in overspray passing through the open gaps in the rim but generally the rear of the rim was 95% black. So, if one wanted to go concourse here in RSA, and to be correct, this method would need to be followed!!! :bang:

Some UN Land Cruisers [not all....] with 16" split rims were sprayed silver, just to upset the applecart :)

.

hey where can i get those same tires that are in the brochure. apparently toyota also made a steel rim that was not split like the ones in the pics, but it has the clips to hold the original hubcaps. i think they are a 6.5x16? am i totally wrong? anyways, i want some nice skinny tires like those for that original look. i dont think kal-tire carries anything like it haha.

So, what did we end up getting? I'm tempted to try the 255/85 R16 but I notice on the BF Goodrich site, they say a minimum of a 6.5 inch wide rim, the splits are 5.5 inch, still not sure as to which way to go.

Ok cheers, what size tube do you use? just the standard 7.50x16?

make sure the tubes have tr150 valves (see here: http://www.transamericanrubber.com/i...es/valves4.gif )..they bend nicely and are not too long not too short, the valve on the tube needs to be "off center" not "on center"

and yes 7.50r16 tubes

radial tubes with radial tires....bias tubes with bias tires

and dont forget flaps :)

I've always used the TR 75/175 type tubes with split rims before - heavy duty of course. I've found them a bit easier to fiddle around with during tyre repairs.

And for interests sake, here's a few 7.50x16 tyres that are available here in Australia, bias and radial. Beadell Tours : MRF Tyres - Bias & All Steel Radials
