Mosquito/Weston Pass ~ Scenic drive through some classic, beautiful Colorado passes
5:30/6:00 Fri Night @ West 7:00/7:30 Sat @ West

I can't believe the scheduling conflicts I am having this summer but I need to be in Denver to pick up the girls at the airport on 8/21 so I won't be able to make this run.

Post up if you are planning on making this run.

I might be dragging along a couple Jeep owners from work--they're good folks otherwise....

Well if we have problems communicating with them we can use Scott as our interpreter.

Oh ya I think Luke can speek a little sheep as well.

It's my wife's!!! I swear, I had nothing to do with buying it.......

I will make this one for sure, lots of fun and scenery. I put this on the trail schedule to drag some of the older guys off the couch. Lots of faces we haven't seen on a ride this year. This is the perfect trail to bring your dust covered rig out on!

I might make it...don't know, we might be going to Ouray instead...:hhmm:

As of now, I'm planning on going. I put new a new 60/40 bench seat in the rusty '88, and I"ve been wanting to take a longer trip in it since it's so cushy now. I don't mind leading the trail if no one else wants to, I have been on Weston pass, but never Mosquito, although I have the trail books and I can read if the words are not to big.

Is it just going to be me and Eric again? I figure the meeting will be at the western gas station, earlier time. probably meet at 7:30 leave at 8.

So is this now officially Wheeler Lake? What meet time? Can we get all this wrapped into a single post so we are all on the same page?

Well it has changed since I posted. Is this still an early meet time or normal meet time? Like pulling teeth around here.

Well if we had a formal trail leader...we might get some solid info... I've pulled some teeth...nothing like this :hillbilly:

I assume if we want to do 2 trails in one day we have to get there early...it will take 1 hour and 16 minutes to get to fairplay.

If we do wheeler lake first, then it's a bit further down the road...

Wheeler lake is not the easiest trail, I got over the obstacles ok, but right at the end there are loose rocks (big rocks) and it's hard to get traction, if you have locker(s) should be easy. I made it up to wheeler lake in the rain, 33's no lockers...just Patience. I would allot 2 to 3 hours for this trail.

To get there from the south, take Highway 285 to Fairplay, then Route 9 north to Road 4 on the left, just after you start to climb up to Hoosier Pass.

Mosquito pass would be second on the list, fairly easy trail, lots to see and you get to an elevation of above 13,000 feet.

The trail head for Mosquito pass starts in park city. It will take an hour to complete the trail, but there are old buildings to see and pictures to take so I would allot 1.3 hours going up and less coming down since you won't stop at the buildings you looked at.

So, meet at the gas station at 8 A.M. leave at 8:30AM, get to fairplay around 9:50 AM, start wheeler...give it about 3 to 3.5 hours...depending on traffic. So you make it down by 2 PM, then go down the road to mosquito pass give it about 3 hours and you will be back down at around 5 PM...head back to Woodland Park and be there around 6:20 PM...stop at a Mexican restaurant and eat some food with some wheeling friends...:grinpimp:

Well thats what I would do...but I'm not sure if I'm going :flipoff2:
