Well it has changed since I posted. Is this still an early meet time or normal meet time? Like pulling teeth around here.
Well if we had a formal trail leader...we might get some solid info... I've pulled some teeth...nothing like this
I assume if we want to do 2 trails in one day we have to get there early...it will take 1 hour and 16 minutes to get to fairplay.
If we do wheeler lake first, then it's a bit further down the road...
Wheeler lake is not the easiest trail, I got over the obstacles ok, but right at the end there are loose rocks (big rocks) and it's hard to get traction, if you have locker(s) should be easy. I made it up to wheeler lake in the rain, 33's no lockers...just Patience. I would allot 2 to 3 hours for this trail.
To get there from the south, take Highway 285 to Fairplay, then Route 9 north to Road 4 on the left, just after you start to climb up to Hoosier Pass.
Mosquito pass would be second on the list, fairly easy trail, lots to see and you get to an elevation of above 13,000 feet.
The trail head for Mosquito pass starts in park city. It will take an hour to complete the trail, but there are old buildings to see and pictures to take so I would allot 1.3 hours going up and less coming down since you won't stop at the buildings you looked at.
So, meet at the gas station at 8 A.M. leave at 8:30AM, get to fairplay around 9:50 AM, start wheeler...give it about 3 to 3.5 hours...depending on traffic. So you make it down by 2 PM, then go down the road to mosquito pass give it about 3 hours and you will be back down at around 5 PM...head back to Woodland Park and be there around 6:20 PM...stop at a Mexican restaurant and eat some food with some wheeling friends...
Well thats what I would do...but I'm not sure if I'm going
