Started to make body mount for the front half of the tub. Keeping firewall about 1 inch away from the engine. Because the 80 frame is taller than 40 frame I’m trying to keep the body as close to frame as possible so it doesn’t look like I’m running body lift.
With 1979 and newer fj40 the gas tank is under the floor so now I have plenty of room for the transmission and t case and new gas tank.

Looking good! Gonna be watching this one

Well after cutting into quarter panels I found someone used lots of bondo to hide the dents from rollover. The right wheel well was also mangled to much for my liking. I seen that the wheel well was dented when I bought the tub but not the 3/8 of bondo on quarters

After figuring out how to graft new sheet metal and replace wheel well i decided to build all new rear tub. I don’t have the patience for body work but will have to deal with it I guess.
I used the top rail from my old tub and the rear of quarter panels. Panels behind B pillar and whole structure and floor will be all new.

Friend of mine borrowed my pickup for weekend and dropped off his 40 so I can use it while he has my truck. Time to take some more stock measurements.

Reusing fj80 brake booster. It fits the 40 without major issues. Had to turn it upside down to match the bolt pattern. Also needed to cut down the shaft and retreaded, it was about 1/2 to long to fit the break pedal perfectly

Cut off original brake pedal and welded the auto fj80 pedal . Had to bend it to the left just little bit to fit the fj80 gas pedal.
Also mocked up brake pedal and made a bracket for its base.
