What's up guys names Brian live in Mooresville NC. Recently picked up a 79 Toyota pickup 2wd. Shes a little rough but runs great. Over the last few weeks I have been doing as much as I can to her and she has come a long way, I do powder coating so I have been taking as much off as I can to refresh it. I have a thread already on another forum so I will copy and paste it to get it up to date

Breather before
IMAG2673_zps55869b17.jpg

Valve cover before. Im trying to decide red or a yellow. I have many colors but I do like it to stand out a bit. I'm thinking one of those on it and maybe black for the breather assembly.
IMAG2675_zps6cd7f917.jpg

Still more work to be done and plan on taking more brackets off to do

I will post more as it happens

Well have found one place which I am hating, right under the battery there is a nice cancer spot. Trying to decide what to do about it. May try to cut it out and form some new sheet metal in it's place.
Don't have a welder but maybe can get a friend to help out

I am thinking of doing a few small brackets in red to break up all the black. Hopefully it will look good.
Well all parts that were removed have been coated. They look great

Valve cover sprayed but not baked

Well I got a decent amount of work done today. I took out the horrid cracked dash which I am hoping to bring back to life with some fiberglass. I also started fixing the wiring nightmare of the interior. The previous owners had removed all stock radio wiring and made some"custom" wiring. Wow what a mess, so I tore it all out and did it the right way. I also am painting a few interior panels, so far glove box , and trim above and over the steering column.
I also fixed the horn it needed a few washers behind the brass o ring. Tomorrow is inspection day

Well got some work done today. So far I took out the bench seat(likely trashing it), cleaned the back part of the floor pan, started grinding it so clean it for paint and to remove the surface rust. More to come

I dread the front section, looks even worse and I know I have a small rust hole(hopefully only one) to fix right under the gas pedal

Finally got my new seats in from a 98 Prelude

Got some new hub caps today lol, from my buddy with a newer pickup. Looks better for now until I get some nice wheels. Also a under hood shot showing some smog delete work

Well today me and my buddy took off the bed. I plan on sanding the frame, installing new struts, putting on lowering blocks prob 3", and new exhaust. Possible more powder coating

Thanks. Today I ravaged a 81 SR5 at pull a part. I got the back wall carpet, seat belts color black for bucket seats, gauge cluster with tach(even though I can't get it to work) side black plastic trim for walls, center console(though It doesn't seem to fit right) center gauges (which I will install later),and a dash that's less cracked up than mine which will be much easier to fiberglass. And a new heater selector switch assembly, also with the trim piece it's broken but less broken than mine.

Twas pull a part in Charlotte. A few yards around me have these trucks but many are stripped

Today I started on the frame, most of the back section is finished. Looks amazing

A little before and after kinda shot'

IMAG2806_zps04120905.jpg

Ahhh so much better. More to come as I take things off.

IMAG2805_zps007fabe1.jpg

Next I need to order carpet, I'm trying to find one that is the entire cab not just the front portion, then order rear struts and get a shackle 2" kit.

That brings back memories. My first car when I was 15 was a 79 sr5 Hilux short bed just like that. I loved that car.

Well guys sad to say I may be selling the yota. I picked up another toy I can enjoy more. 95 K5 Diesel Blazer
May still keep it haven't decided yet.

IMAG2814_zpsd3ba4093.jpg

Actually it gets almost the same. Right at 15 mpg. And I am collecting used motor oil to make black diesel. 80% filtered motor oil 20% gasoline. Make 10 gallons of fuel for $7-8 can't beat that.

Ya, if you're only getting 15, then something's drastically wrong. I had an '83 2WD (my first Toyota!) that would easily get 25, almost 30 if I was gentle. Great truck. Then a telephone pole jumped out in front of it. :crybaby: :crybaby:

Ok so she is probably running stupid rich then. I need to find someone good with carbs to help me adjust it.
I may end up keeping her. I mean I have always wanted one and I have done so much work so far. We shall see. I just put the bed back on yesterday.
