The FJ is in the final stages of getting freshened up.

Here are the latest pictures:

The rusted sections below the vents have been fixed, and the fenders are ready for paint. If all goes as planned, the plastic dust cover will be removed and the FJ will go into the paint booth to get sprayed completely during the next week.

jacoby fj40 says, "wow it is looking good..... i realy like the color"

Thanks for the compliment.

There are just a few more steps until the whole thing is done. The bezel is getting sand blasted, the doors still need to be painted, and the half-doors are getting straightened. I'm hoping to put a couple hundred miles on before the snow flies.

Great build, keep the pic's coming!

Hello Dave,

Your rig is looking beautiful!! I can't wait to see the pics of it with the top and doors on. How are you liking that Aqualu tub? I've always been really impressed with them.

Keep the pictures and updates coming.

Cheers.

I added another 1,000 miles to the odometer this summer.

The doors should be on pretty soon. One of them needed a new channel guide, but because the doors are Australian and have the small "winged" windows, it took me quite a while to get what I needed. I tried multiple sources, including some local glass places and online Cruiser stores.

My son found an old post from "lost marbles," who explained how to custom fit OEM Toyota guides to doors just like mine. Armed with that information, I decided to call Cruiser Dan. Even though I'd bought parts from him before, I did not think he'd be able to find what I needed because of where the doors came from. Dan found the parts, and a short time later, I had brand new guides for both front doors. C-Dan found guides made specifically for my doors, which means I do not have to mod them.

As part of the new paint job, the fiberglass top was sanded, painted, and gelcoated. I bought a new roof rail from Alex ("SouthBostonFJ"), so when I get the time, I'll assemble everything and post up some more pictures.

Thanks again for checking out my project.

Hello Dave,

I have one of the newer generation ones, and I am extremely impressed with it. I wish I'd known about Aqualu before I sold my '79.

I agree with you Dave. I had a 76 FJ40 many, many years ago that only had 80,000 miles on it. The frame was perfect because it was a Northern New Mexico rig, but the tub was toast.

I wound up parting it out, but it would have been ideal for an Aqualu.

I've only seen one Aqualu for a 79-84, and I was not impressed with how it mounted to the cowl - much better on the pre 79 ones because of the factory joint there. I'm not sure if they have improved the 79-84 ones or not.

So will you be putting that sexy door panel back on when you're done? Those were some seriously pimped-out doors. i can't wait to see your rig when it's all back together.

Josh
