Cool.

Looking foward to seeing the photos James.

got a slight problem ... i had a look but i cant ACTUALLY find the specs of the 2h head bolt torque settings.. and you have to do them in a specific order? i need help!!!
reason being, its been rebuilt, but apparently not retensioned and its 20k km old .... sooo im checking the head bolts, but i need to know what to do them to, and the order? cheers

I only have the Max Ellery Manual for the torque figure, but here's the procedure based on that James:
  • light coating of engine oil on threads and under the heads of all 26 bolts
  • Install and uniformly tighten them in several passes working from the centre outwards
  • Torque 1,150 kg-cm (83 ft-lb)
Of course if you're retorquing then the "oil business" is irrelevant.

And if the engine has been sitting for a considerable time since the head was refitted and first torqued, you may find some bolts are simply stuck from thread-friction etc. In which case you may find some bolts "breaks free" (and then appear quite loose) while others won't budge at all. .......... Not much you can really do about that at this stage .... But it is the reason why retorquing shouldn't generally be left too long.

Hope this helps.

PS. So, start with the centre two bolts (and start those in any order), and then work diagonally outwards from there in a uniform manner. And do it in a number of "passes" while increasing the setting on your torque wrench for each pass.

thanks heaps Lostmarbles, ( never never land ? ;p )
have been taking it fairly easy , no rushing.. :/ its raining tomorrow :'(
but today got the cross member modified. its a short one got some 8mm mild steel 130mm wide ( front to back axle ) and 140mm long, cut some slits and slotted it onto the crossmember, welded it every which way, put it up and front holes (in plate ) pre drilled for 1/2 inch m8's, drilled out two holes then tapped it, all squared up.
took it down and did the two back ones in the plates on crossmember, put it back up, piloted, drilled - got stuff c rap in eye spent an hour getting that out ( windy ) then tapped and bolted . done :D screws into chassis.

now i got to get the front left mount in and done up, put the gear sticks in, re-attach the clutch, handbrake is staying off atm, and also the shutoff arm, doing it manually for now. put theradiator in, probably take the fan off because it doesnt fit in with radiator, need to make an arm for the alternator.. :l chuck the battery in and wire up stuff until it runs, battery is being relocated to driver side under tray behine cab ( later ). dodgy jumper cable pre warmer to start as once its at mine re wire from head to toe :D

a few more things different between H motor and 2H,
the throttle bod is basically the same, but 2h cable bracket goes across the back - rear left and rear right, the h the drivers side ( AUS = RHD ) rear right and front right. also the spring thingy is smaller on H motor and cable hole - slot are different sizes.
H gearbox wires are at back up top. 2h up top right hand side near gearstick lever. speedo the same though.
exhausts- h runs down to ouside chassis. 2h inside the whole way . also higher up too, much better.
2h has smaller side block plates - almost by half.
thats all i can think of off the top of my head atm

SOME pictures, a few missing, more to come

its in, running, no breather off altenator, the oil ( above upside down ) filter is leaking ... no nuts on radiator, not done up on bottom of engine mounts, one isnt done up at all on rear cross member, half an exhaust ( muffler not attached ), held up by the trusty zip ties. no cut off have to open bonnet to turn off car, no hand brake . no air filter, bad earth in dash ( left indicator stays on ) but not lit up externally.... but, its home and i can do all the other stuff to it now and make it newerish.
from about friday and the weekend ill be stripping the H motor for thos who want parts and what not. oh yeah

still gotta put up photos, but i cant find my cable .. sorry guys, at the moment i am doing the horrible exspensive part, stripping off pipes, hoses, all water housing parts and replacing them brand new.. i have photos of that to .
does anyone know what the second bolt like pipe towards the back of the motor on the top ( next to rocker cover ) is for , , my H motor didnt have two, yet the 2H does, , can i bolck it off, or does it have to run into another pipe?

If the pipe is the line sticking up out of the engine then going 90deg, bout 3/4 inch - 1 inch diameter, then it is a heater hose. Goes into the heater tap, then into the cabin. There is another heater hose coming from the cabin that kind of loops under that hose and along the top of the engine into another heater outlet/inlet.

I have these blocked off on mine at the moment. I'm building an HJ45 with 2H as well and just blocked them off with some solid rod I had at work just to get the motor started.

When it comes time to rewire the engine control unit - if you are doing it, let me know because I just rewired mine. I used an FJ loom and created a glow plug harness and the EDIC harness from scratch so can help with this. Also have a spare Fuel control relay and glow plug relays and preheat timer if you need them.

I would like to see pics of the gearbox mount though...?

yeah awesome man, i believe that im gona go with a wire straight from battery termianl to a umm thingy then to a off hold- on switch then to the glow plug, just to take out those three big prewarmer units.
yeah no idea on the cutoff fuel and what not yet, do you have photos in a thread? my rewire job is either 2 weeks or 5 weeks away. shrugs, ive got my bike atm so im good ;P yeah, my cable is in my mates car, - for photos - dunno when ill get that back

I dont have photos in a thread no. Have been too busy with work to take any photos lately but will aim to do so soon.

I wired my glow plugs without the pre heat timer as well. I havent decided if I want to go and wire the timer in or leave it nice and simple with just a plain old solenoid. Works fine like that for now anyway.

yeah, thats what i plan to do but with the off hold on switch. easy. lol i hope.

oh and guys sorry for lack of action / posting, im working all hours because my work has a new wharehouse being setup atm, plus stocktake, and its my " project" to see if im good enough for a promotion .. so im working my ass off :) = hence me working this long weekend . :( all of it

What's the go with your steering? The steering damper certainly isn't standard.

sorry Herbs, i've no idea what you mean ..
sorry also guys, ive done nothing .. too busy at work .. :( other than ordering parts, just need the 2H backing plate - water pump, and the heater pipes ( steel ) then im ready to get a mate get a few fittings for the alternator oil pump part .. my phone shat itself, lost photos .. >:@ i might be able to still get them from memory card ..

The steering damper - it isn't in the standard position, I'd just like to know how it's mounted now and why.
