What is the date code on your carb? Just so we know for sure. 5 and 13 I think are drilled at slightly different positions so the vacuum response may be slightly different between the two. Technically.

Matt,
The date code is: 6K15 - November 15th, 1976

My rig has a manufacture date of 12/76

I'm sure Jim will keep me honest, but...

The top port at the front of the carb inlet is the power valve.

Most of the dizzys in the '70s were vacuum retard, so you probably don't want to connect it at all, unless you've replaced it and are sure that it's vacuum advance. The mechanical advance is enough to make it run right.

If you have a vacuum advance dizzy, you can test the two ports (5, 13) with a vacuum gauge. Ported vacuum wil be about 0 at idle and go up with just a little throttle.

Eddy,
I just pulled my Aisan carb last night, and plan to have Jim C. work his magic. In the mean time, I have a new Trollhole carb installed as my back-up. But will reinstall my Aisan crab after the rebuild.

As for my dizzy, I'm not sure if it's an advance or retard. It looks old and original. So I would guess it is what ever came on a 77' rig, manufactured 12/76. (Note, it was originally hooked into a vacuum port.)

Ported vacuum direct to a vacuum retard dizzy will not do what you would want. If you're sending Jim a carb to rebuild bend his ear on the subject. He's the master. He'll likely eliminate the power valve feature as well.

My manu date is 10/1978, is the desmog setup the same as for the '77?

Eddy,
Thanks for the info and I'll be sure to consult with Jim C. on the best set up for my rig.
Per all the diagrams for desmogging a 77' I've seen, the dizzy vacuum line should hook into port #13.....but those could be wrong? :meh:...Where would you suggest a 77' dizzy vacuum line hook into? I gleaned the below diagram from here on MUD.

The stock '77-later USA dissys are vacuum advance. The malaise era 69-76 dissys are vac retard.

The port on the top of GA's particular, rare carb is not the PV, but is an air bleed for the HAC function. It should be capped for operation at low altitude.

Hello everyone, reviving an old helpful thread but I'm working on a CA model 1977. After too much time of trying to get all my smog stuff working... I've decided to just delete it for now since it is just our farm vehicle and the smog stuff has cost an arm and isn't functioning correctly. Based on the above conversation an the differences in the CA model, this is what I have come up with:

My concern is around the gas filter, at the moment I have them all capped - before I started working on it, our mechanic had all three connected to carb 13, 5, 14. @FJ40Jim, you seem to be the guru - I'd love your input if you're willing!

For reference, here is the original diagram for the 1977 CA Model
