Hi All,

I'm looking at getting some lift out of the pig and i've read a thread on putting 75 series springs under them. What i want to know is are the springs that people used the sock height springs or were they a lifted spring? My springs on the 55 are pretty flat so i'm thinking i would only be the standard height springs needed but i can't see anything that says either way. I'm in australia so 75 series are plentiful here.

I've only read of people using the 70 series lift springs from Old Man Emu.

Look at Cruiser outfitters website under suspensions systems for fj55. They use 70 series OME lift springs, but the rear spring mount has to be moved backwards, requiring welding services.

There's a couple of Aussie spring makers doing spring kits for 55s. Lovells and ultimate suspension if you want go down that path. They give a 2"lift off stock. Will be going down that path when I need them.

Cool. So they all use a lifted spring. I can get some front springs pretty cheap second hand so i'll nab them and see what they do to it. I know i've got to move the rear spring hangar back which will be a bit of fun to do, but not impossible. Thanks guys!

you guys can't spring over axle down under can you?
the longer spring will make the ride quality better, prolly worth the extra work...
can you post a link to the aftermarket spring suppliers you guys have down there?

we can in certain states, but i honestly just don't like them. Too much lift too much instability.

I think we basically have the same suppliers as you for the big names. We have OME, dobinsons, lovells, king etc. As well as probably a lot of lesser known brands too.

that's just it; we don't have anything for pig springs over here besides the 70 series option, which requires altering the rig. I'm sure some guys would love a set of 2" aftermarket pig springs...if only they knew where to buy them...

'Cause 97% of US Cruiser leafs and coils come from Australian suppliers, a result of a (non-scientific) 100 to 1 ratio.

Alcan.

I can't attest to long term product or ride quality, can't really even say if they're 2" over OE, as I have no clue what OE height was, but they're a bolt in solution, for the most part.

the silly thing is though, you can buy the springs over there cheaper than what i can buy them for here. Australia is stupidly expensive for certain things.......

The springs on you truck Delancy - are they the alcan ones or the 75 series? The height looks pretty good! Are they 35's under it? It's close to what i'm looking for.

meh...leaf springs:flipoff2:

...are fer the arse end. ;)

Cruiser outfitters has three options. I am told that most go with the mediums. That is the path that I am headed down, but they are on back order :( til the end of January supposedly.

So what are good ways to tell if your springs are beat anyway?

can't say, but I think you know...your back and neck will tell you...

2 weeks...have you contacted Alcan? I don't know how to feel about the Alcans...I know they are good, but not sure how long they'll be around in this America. OME is a time tested company; and keep springs on the shelf(read as cheaper...)

70 series springs on back order? Who would've thought. If the spring packs have gone flat or have broken leaves, I believe it can safely be said that they're beat. :D Of course, most people replace perfectly decent stock springs when they decide to lift their rigs.
Delancy's truck looks like the right combo of tire size and lift to me.

I have the Cruiser Outfitters "heavy" spring setup on my 55. It gives about a 2" lift and I run 33"x10.5 BFGs on stock steel wheels. I have about 7,000 miles with this setup. I am very happy with it. It has a firm but not harsh ride. If the ride is too rough a leaf can be removed. I have driven on freeways at 80 mph and expedition type travel on the dirt. No complaints. The back order situation is usually due to large orders being shipped by slow boat.

Chevurai you bought the heavies. Now is that the third or is that the middle choice? I was told that the middle choice is called the heavies and that there is a third heavier. I would have immediately gone with the heviest, but was told by CO that noone buys the heaviest and that it was only used on trucks and so forth. Sounds like you bought the middle choice. ?

That could be. I only remember having two choices for the spring weight . A call to Kurt could straighten out the spring selection issue and what is available. I just checked out CO's web site and they list two spring weights for the 55 kit. That doesn't mean that some other spring combination won't work.
