About three months ago I bought a 71 pig from a guy in LA. It's been parked for some time and needs a lot of love. I started my frame off resto a month after I brought her home.

Last weekend I torn in to the engine. In the process of removing the head I discovered one of the head bolts (in the number one position) was a stud instead of a bolt. Is this factory? Or something a PO did?

I'm fairly new to the Pig world, but I'm learning fast. I've been photo-documenting my build the entire time. I'll post some more pics in the coming weeks.

I do not believe it is factory, although I am not as familiar with the F engine. Man that fire wall has got some patina goin on! welcome

I'm new to the Cruiser world too, but I just looked at some parts diagrams and saw only bolts, no studs.

Mine ('72 F) had 2 studs as well - the front left 2. I assume the bolts were replaced w/studs as there was an AC pulley bracket hanging off them. I removed the entire AC system and replaced the studs w/the correct bolts as the studs were too long w/the bracket removed. . .

Fun project!

I have just finished rebuilding my F motor and there no studs on the block? When i get home i will send you if you like the service manual for the F motor it even covers carb rebuilds. Just pm me you email and i will send you the file over the computer.
