I just picked up a beautiful 70 Series. I have some rather large plans for it. I have some new T60's ready to drop in. I am going to have a ARB winch bumper fabbed up along with a dual carrier for the rear and jerry can holder. I haven't decided if I want to put sliders on this. I am going to modify the front T60 axle to be a LSD. My XJ is my class 1 comp rig (scale class/street class) with built axles and full aluminum upgrades. The 70 Series is going to be my shelf queen, taking it out only on special occasions. I may actually tow the XJ with the 70 to the comps

Anyways, here are some photo's of it. It should be arriving Tuesday/Wednesday :D

    A few specs on it:

Body: Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter's Pick-up. This Was Produced by Discovery Comunications in 2001. The Truck is 18" Long and 7-1/2" Tall. They are no longer being made, so incredibly rare hard body. I have only seen one for sale in the past two years. It was going for several hundred.

Chassis: Is a custom TF1 chassis extended about 1.5" at the center skid

    Transmission: 16:1 RC4WD red planetary

Transfer case: I think is a GCM. not positive on the brand, but it's a 1:1

    Axles: T60 ARB Edition F/R

Leafs: soft reds with helpers leafs in the rear, and highlift leafs in the front

    Wheels: 1.9 G-made VR01 black (brand new)

    Tires: 1.9 Military tires

As for the power plant, I am going to use a 27T Axial motor, AE-2 ESC, decent but cheap and can run 2S or 3S with BEC. I'm not sure about the servo yet, I want something that is going to be powerful but small, I am going to make a frame mounted servo solution. This is my first rig with leafs, so it will be different than my 4-link XJ.

I also want to change the color of it, I am thinking a high gloss gun metal. I'm open to opinions!

That's awesome! Looks like they are still out there. What chassis are you putting it on? I haven looked for the 70 series body in a long time. I'm shocked to see the prices so low. Maybe I should buy a fresh cab and do a little restoration!

I have a Trailfinder 2 that I also never finished, and the fj40 frame by fracture, I'll see what fits. The TF2 has a killer transfercase and tranny. Vanquish has come out with some scale Currie axles, they would look awfully good under it.

Yeah I've been looking for the larger 70 for about a year. Been watching that one on ebay, $99 shipped with no bids. Then the day before it ends you post up yours! I thought "crap, this is gonna get bid up high" Guess I lucked out!

Is yours filled in at the sunroof?
I hope I can actually finish a project and make it look as good as yours.

    The madness has began.

    Trail Finder chassis
    LandCruiser 70 Series Body
T-60 Axles fully built with aluminum knuckles, c-hubs, ARB diff covers (in the mail), CVD's, HD lockers and aluminum links
    Mamba Max ESC
    Axial 27T Brushed motor
Hitech HS645MG Digital Servo with aluminum horn (may go into my Class 1 XJ, stronger than my XJ's servo)
FS-GT3B TX and FS GR-3C RX.
    Mud Plugger 1.9 Military Tires

Axles were zip tied for pictures and mock up of wheel base. Waiting on shocks and leaf spring mounts for the axles. I need to narrow the front axle about 1" (.5" on each side). I'll be fabricating a ARB winch bumper for the front and a dual carrier for the rear with a metal replacement bed/rack as well. She needs a little touch up work on the front end, the glue on the light buckets and corner lamps are hazing over. I'll need to remove and buff it off and re-glue with a clear epoxy, frame is painted a military green, powdercoating with a 35% gloss black and the body is being shot in a gun metal grey color in a automotive paint booth Interior is missing a few things, I'll be picking up some styrene and scale diamond plating to spruce things up inside and out. The leaf spring mounts sit a little low, ill have to find a way to shift them up or reposition so the bumper can mount a little closer. I could go coil overs in the front and chop the frame slightly to allow a tighter bumper, but the 70 came with leafs, want to keep it that way.

Plans for the rear end. Some similar but not as aggressive. Keeping the factory lines and retaining the bed to mount scale accessories and battery under a utility box.

Looks like things are coming along nicely.

That is some serious hardware you have going into that thing to be a "shelf queen"

It will be wheeled, just not "wheeled" like the SCX-10. Leaf Sprung scalers just don't like abuse. That said, if I can't give it abuse, than I'll give it some love!

I grabbed a beer and got to work restoring the lights. It came with yellowed and hazed light buckets with some type of old LED in there. I took my Axial light buckets and enlarged the hole slightly.

I soldered up a LED lighting system that runs off a 9V battery. I didn't have enough LED's so I had to add a few resistors on each + wire. Once installed in the Axial light buckets I noticed light leaking out the back. Simple fix, electrical tape.

I used a non-hazing glue to mount the buckets.

Here is the front end with new lights.

    Wiring for the front clip:

I mounted the switch, and 9V battery between the cab and bed via epoxy (switch) and Velcro (9V).

For the tail lights: the LED's I purchased were not quite red. Luckily the old yellow buckets made them a little more red. Not sure how, but WIN!

Once removed I did a little more work on the old lights. De-hazing them, buffing and a little clear coat.

    After:

Epoxied to the rear frame/bumper of the body and cleaned up the wiring.

    And now for the results-

    Thanks!

Discovery made the much more detailed version, stay away from the Radio Shack one, it has stickers for lights and much smaller. eBay has a few last time I checked.

Weird. I just found this. Picked up a scx10 trail honcho yesterday and radio shack Steve Irwin 70 series on eBay. Trying to cancel eBay transaction. This looks to small for the scx10 platform.
